Final Cost for MD, Neb, and Rutgers to join B10
Looking at the numbers from the B10's 990 you can find the cost of joining the Big 10 for MD, Rutgers, and Nebraska. The B10 charged Nebraska $96 million over 7 years. They charged Rutgers a whopping $210 million. They charged MD $98 million ($67 M in withheld money and $31M in an upfronted loan).
They are charging Oregon and Washington about $150 M each.
Wonder what they will charge FSU?

Presumably, if they take a 50% cut in media rights like Oregon and Washington, they will still be making more than they were in the ACC.
Not enough to cover a $500 mil exit agreement but more than they were making.

TV this last 990 tax cycle was about $43 M per B10 school and their total distribution was $58 M (Includes big interest money, NCAA, Bowls, Playoff). So if you got half TV you would be at $21.5 M plus $16 M or $37.5 M.
That's less than the $38.6 that FSU got in the ACC for the same year.
Yep, all sounds about right - just like MD, trade out for the B10 and actually lose money in the process for at least 7 years.

The more I think about it, the more I suspect the primary reason FSU got into a legal fight was not about money but rather about FOMO.

Reading some of the posts from FSU fans, fear of the future seems like a huge driver. Uncertainty about "P2 versus M2 conferences" or CFP expansion or pay-for-play allows worst case scenarios to creep in.
