Why isn’t the current Houston stadium on the Astrodome footprint?
When the NFL team replaces a stadium, ISTM the new stadium is on the same land as the original. Why is Houston different?

"Nobody" in Houston wants to part ways with it because of its history as the first dome.

Problem is it's been sitting vacant for the last 20 years ever since high school football stopped being played there. People can't make up their mind on what they want to do with it and it's become an eyesore and waste of taxpayer money (they still keep the lights on inside).

A decade or so ago, some idiots snuck in and took pictures around the facility and even went on the roof. If something happened to them, the city and county would have been liable, so it's really a problem.

I would like to see them turn it into a Houston sports museum of some sort. Anything but letting it sit there and rot and decay.
