I just hate the poor CUSA6 haven't been more competitive with the mighty AAC holdovers so far. :)

I lived in Charlotte for a few years, have tons of family in Charlotte, and grew up an hour away... I love Charlotte. Beautiful city, tons to do, 3 professional sports franchises (and 1 MiLB team with the nicest MiLB stadium in America), and awesome food. (Don't come looking for BBQ, though.)

It's hard to develop a "soul" when there are so many transplants moving there every year. It is rare to run into Charlotte natives, or even native North Carolinians when you're uptown. The boom comes with a cost.

Yes, the traffic is bad... but Atlanta is 10,000x's worse. (I use Atlanta as a comparison because it is the closest major city.) Crime is bad, but Atlanta is 10,000x's worse.

The beer scene in Charlotte is alive and well... NC in general is awesome for beer.

I'd live in Charlotte any day of the week over Memphis. I did enjoy the few times I visited Memphis, but I never really felt safe anywhere off of Beale St. It seems to be more of a depressed area... that "soul" you're talking about comes from generations of poverty. I'm personally glad Charlotte doesn't have that sort of soul. I just wish Charlotte were known for something cooler than the NASCAR hall of fame... (which IS cool...btw.)

The main issue is Charlotte is losing most of it's middle class to the surrounding counties because they are being taxed and priced out of the city. My BIL married a woman who is a corporate executive for a hotel chain. They make great money. They live in a house the same size as ours that's one county over. We have a 2 car garage, they don't.

It was nearly 3 times the price.

It's getting to the point even the upper middle class is finding it hard to make ends meet in the city limits (or Mecklenburg County in general). Pretty soon it will seem like all there are in the city are the upper and lower classes. This is probably not a unique issue for just Charlotte, just the way things are going in general.

clt says the taxes in the charlotte suburbs are getting absurd, often times cheaper to be in meck for rates. values in meck are much higher obviously

The NASCAR Hall of Fame & Charlotte Motor Speedway & race shops are decent for the area. Maybe the Spectrum Center, but the Hornets are the worst franchise in the NBA.

I work downtown and live in Cabarrus Co. I'm very familiar. Most people moving to this area aren't moving into the city. The city almost doesn't have a middle class anymore. It's going to become a real problem especially with all of the light rail they want to build.
