RE: Speaking of the transfer portal
Liberty QB Kaidon Salter and CB Kobe Singleton have hit the transfer portal today. There had already been talk that Ohio State had offered Salter a chunk of money to transfer. Guess we will see if there is any truth to that rumor.

Salter is worth it, good thing they have a good backup. I'm hoping the third stringer from Enemas U comes to Utep.

The only backup we had with any experience coming back swas Jonathan Bennett. He hit the portal earlier and has ended up at The Citadel. We have no QB with any playing experience on the roster at this time. Wouldn’t surprise me if Chadwell begins searching the portal for a QB.

RE: Speaking of the transfer portal
We do have Nate Hampton with limited experience and Trey Lowe for all those who remember him from UAB. But neither has proven to be much of a passer to this point.

My guess is Mooney is the likely frontrunner this spring getting pushed by Lowe and whoever we bring in off the portal. Mooney redshirted this year and also is a baseball player for us. But he flipped from Vandy to come our way a year ago. He had several P5 offers at the time. He has the pedigree if he is able to adjust well in the Chadwell/Korn offensive scheme.

Our 4-star QB coming in from IMG Academy may pass them all by the time we kick off the season this fall. But that may be a great deal to ask of a true freshman. We'll see.

How many more years of eligibility does Lowe have? Wasn’t this his 6th year? I’m really excited about Bradford, but as you pointed out that’s a lot to ask from a true freshman. Mooney came here because he was going to be able to play both football and baseball, so I don’t know how much he’s in on football. I think I remember the reason he left Vandy was because they weren’t going to let him do both. I look for HCJC to be looking at the portal to add some experience at the QB position.

NIL deals are a contract between a non-University entity and a private citizen acting outside their role as a student athlete. The NCAA holds no more authority over any contract between those two parties than it would over any student and their work. Neither party, or any of the goods and services exchanged involve college athletics.

If you can hire an actor as a spokesperson and base the compensation on specific criteria, you can hire a student athlete as a spokesperson and base compensation on specific criteria.

If the NCAA exerts authority they willingly sacrifice the Chinese Wall between the school and the payments because they regulate college athletics, not outside employment. That’s what got them sued in the first place.

See, this is what bothers me the most about NIL and the portal.. Poaching players with money... I really hope they change this at the very least.. I ticks me off so much, but I will spare everyone from reading 3 paragraphs of what has already been said a thousand times on here.

Hate to be the "Dooms Day" guy. Left unregulated, NIL and Transfer Portal will be the Death of CFB. 03-banghead We'll end up with 30-40 "pro" college teams. When the remaining 90-100 FBS teams are only able to give scholarships to players; CFB will become the mini-NFL. 03-puke

We already have that with the usfl and xfl merging. We'd be lower than low.

For the record, KSalt's rommate CJ Daniels is now also in the portal. That's a huge loss for us.

I hate it for you guys. I can't even be salty because it's all purely transactional now. Talent is always going to flow upwards unless you have a top ten budget.

Used to be, there was a competitive component to recruiting. Maybe your coach is a great recruiter or a great personality and players want to play for him. Or maybe your school itself wins over recruits. Maybe you've won several conference titles in a row, is on the upswing, and have sent players to the NFL. Now, that competition has moved to be purely transactional, in the realm of banks and finances, and is largely out of the hands of coaches or the product on the field. It's far harder to emotionally invest in recruiting when this is the case.

Liberty has now lost their best QB, WR, best two CB's, best defensive lineman, all in the portal. And their best OL is going pro. Welcome to college football 2024....where you reward for being a very good G5 is to lose half your team.

I think the biggest problem with those games are that they're played in very hot conditions. The players might not mind it because they're sweating already but the fans don't want to get sunburned at every game. Those games need to be played indoors or at night. They don't have the prestige of the Nfl where the fans are fanatical and will endure any kind of weather. But, I guess this post has too much common sense, the owners don't see it because they're watching from air conditioned rooms.

Here in El Paso soccer is very popular and is well attended but it's because the games are at night when the people are off work and it's not so hot either.

I’m not panicking just yet because I trust Coach Chadwell. He had to restock half the roster last year and it turned out pretty good. But as you said, the reward for having a good season is having to reload every year. It’s come to the point where you know that any player who is good will more than likely be gone the following year. This constant turnover will surely effect the bond between the fans and their teams. It would seem that this current mess helps the P4 coaches. I would think that they don’t have to worry about recruiting nearly as much as before. They can sit back and hand pick all the good players from the G5 schools with little effort at all. On the other hand, the G5 coaches better be very good at finding the hidden gems in the transfer portal and good at quickly getting the kids out of high school to contribute if they expect to be successful. All the while knowing that their efforts to field a good team will result in their good players leaving. Kind of discouraging if you’re not part of the Cartel.

We will be fine. Losing Salter hurts but we will have arguably two of the most talented freshmen QBs in Liberty’s history. Add the transfer portal which has a lot of good QB’s still available. We return 3 starting OL and one who played a lot. As for WR, we return Reese and Jones from Injury, who the coaches are high on . WRs next year will be better.
Kendy was hurt majority of the season and Hardy and Dixon got most of the starts and snaps and both return and add the 4 star Wake Forest transfer. We do need to improve at LB and CB, which was a concern last year.

Yah, we’re taking big hits, 1st and 2nd string QBs, 1st string WR, 1st string DL, 2 top CBs, starting S, and a handful of others with significant playing time all gone to the portal. 03-weeping

Change it for what? Isn't this exactly how it's worked for coaches for the last 50 years and no one had a problem with it? A coach gets poached to the P5 for 3 times the money, no one is throwing a fit.
