A Day Later - Win Totals for 2024 Football Season
I'm sure it's already been started somewhere else but with the roster turnover our new HC and his staff are facing what's a realistic win total for next season with the following out of conference games:

- At Charlotte against Biff Poggi: 3-9 in 2023
- Home against FCS Gardner-Webb: 7-5 in 2023
- At UNC: 8-4 in 2023
- Home against Ball State: 4-8 in 2023

Sun Belt games to include:

- At GASO: 6-7 in 2023
- Home against Marshall: 6-7 in 2023
- At Old Dirty: 6-7 in 2023
- Home against Georgia State: 7-6 in 2023
- At crApp State: 9-5 in 2023
- Home against Coastal: 8-5 in 2023

We have yet to play either of the Louisiana teams or Southern Miss in the Sun Belt West: Louisiana: 6-7 in 2023; Louisiana-Monroe: 2-10 in 2023 and Southern Miss: 3-9 in 2023.

I'll start with an 7-5 record with several narrow victories by single digits.

Between 1-11 and 12-0.

How in the hell can you make a prediction yet without knowing yet:
-who JMU is getting in the portal.
-who JMU’s DC will be.
-whether Mcloud and Sarratt are leaving.
-who the SBC West opponents are.
-who the opponents are losing and gaining in the portal.

RE: A Day Later - Win Totals for 2024 Football Season
It is too early to make a prediction for next season until after the portal and staff shakes out. With that said, I do expect us to take a step back next season due to the attrition we have suffered to the roster thus far. I trust Chesney will have our program humming again but he may need a year.

RE: A Day Later - Win Totals for 2024 Football Season
Deep breath and exhale.

The key at JMU is the coaching. With a good coaching staff in any sport, we’ll win, because JMU is JMU and other schools aren’t.

So it really comes down to Chesney. Every man has a ceiling. For our last few football coaches, JMU was that ceiling. (Cignetti is TBD.) Was Holy Cross Chesney’s high water mark? We’ll see.

If you pin me down, I’d say we have a winning season. Another 11 win season is highly unlikely, but I think we’re a 7-win SBC team regardless.

I don’t even need to know what happens between now and the opener. We will be competing for another sunbelt east title.

The only question mark was UNC, I had no doubt we were gonna do it before cig left, but now I’ll mark that as an L

RE: A Day Later - Win Totals for 2024 Football Season
Let's not forget that we're not the only SBC team to lose players to the portal. Also, we can acquire guys in the portal, including from other Sun Belt schools. (We're still a big draw).

Reversion to the mean would indicate we won't be able to go 11-1, but it's not like we'll be reduced to Rhode Island next year.

If you have the right to be a homer, they have the right to be downers. Our program has been decimated and we have a head coach coming in from a non-scholarship FCS conference that people are celebrating for some weird reason. All because we are too cheap to pay for, or to retain a head coach with a proven track record at a Division 1 scholarship level. The sole kid he is bringing with him so far had offers from Ivy’s. Yippee. Dark days are ahead for this program.

Don’t get angry at me for being level-headed.

Edit: Not solely directed at you BCP, I like you. Just talking in general to all of the homers who I keep seeing on here. “Best of luck to the players leaving and thanks for your time at JMU!” It makes my stomach turn worse than the undercooked calamari I had on Christmas Eve

That’s simply not true, they provide 60 scholarships. We weren’t too cheap, we provided a huge bump in pay that was outbid by IU. At some point you have to walk away from negotiations knowing you stuck with your budget. JMU has proven they know how to spend, but spend wisely and they forced IU to double their offer. We backfilled with a younger, better, more personable replacement. The sole kid he is bringing would’ve had far better offers if he was available longer, but he committed quickly, he’s an accomplished player and will do well for us.

It's almost as if were celebrating hiring a coach that has won at every level with programs that are historically bad and that same coach now has more resources at his disposal than he has ever had. He can obviously coach and every single football media person/insider/etc has said he is a rising star. I dont think 9-3 is realistic next year since we're basically putting out a new starting 22 and 6-6 is probably more likely but I do think that Chesney will get it rolling again in year 2 (if not this season) but JMU is by no means going to fade away for the long term
