We won the Bahamas Bowl back in 2014 vs Central Michigan 49-48. Wasn't as dramatic or wild as this one but was intense.
It was the 1st ever Bahamas Bowl and even wilder finish....
Western built something like a 31(edit:35) point lead and Western was up 21 with 6 minutes to play and going in to score but Willie fumbled at the 10...
Central Michigan made the come back and a wild and long 80 yard TD on the last play of the game, 1 second on the clock. They could have kicked to tie but chose to go for two and Western made the stop

All this bull about nothing to play for or prove so someone gets hit and sits out the 2nd half....
Going into every season every team in college football goal is
1. win every game
2. win a conference championship
3. win enough games to make a bowl
4. win that bowl game you worked so hard to get to
Now someone is going to say well there's nothing really to play for . Or this player doesn't have anything to prove. Or the score is lopsided so I'm going to protect myself.
BULLSHITE and it takes a candy ass to even think like that because playing in the G5 making and winning that bowl game is most likely your #2 goal at the start of the season. If you get hurt sitout....
anything other than that you are letting your teammates down because those same teammates worked their asses off just like you did to get to this point....
Its a ME move period
I'm going to sound like a old man boomer but you young people today are soft and don't care about anything but whats best for YOU. Football is a TEAM sport and no one person can win a game. Don't try to feed me no bullshite about "protecting" or "nothing to prove" and talk all week about TEAM!
A player had no greater chance at injury in a bowl game that any other game leading up to that point. Actually probably less chance because they had 3 weeks to heal from the hits they took all season

Great googly moogly. I really really shouldn't have watched that. My oldest son and his wife were over that day. My youngest son who was a senior at Western at the time was there with some friends. All watching on what was then a big flat screen TV in my living room.
We'd been hootin' and hollerin' all game long. You could have heard an f'in pin drop the last throw. I mean we barely celebrated when it was over. We looked at each other like we'd witnessed each other doing something dirty. Subdued was an understatement.
Hell I feel like someone dredging up memories of being molested by a priest after watching that replay. And I'm not even catholic.

That game played a very important role for the future of the next two years.....
Brohm pounded other football teams till they couldn't make a come back before taking his foot off the gas. That defense was so young one mistake and they fell apart.
But some of those players grew with experience and help make up a top CUSA defense in 2016 as far as points allowed. I know Marshall fans loved to point to yards allowed as #1 in defense. But to me that means a lot less than points.
The most disappointing part, for me, in Helton, he hasn't took a growth step from his mistakes. He just seems to repeat them year after year. As with all things in life, mistakes are going to happen....
what a person gets from those usually means the difference in their projection. Brohm shot to the moon and Helton is still orbiting around earth...repeating, repeating, repeating. I try to just block the Dreamer, Boy Idiot, out of my mind.

No. Don't try to block the Dreamer, Boy Idiot out of your mind. We have to remember Goober Jr as a cautionary tale to teach our young. Like back in the cave man days when mama cavewoman told her kids she almost lost their dad to a saber toothed tiger in that exact spot over there. Our kids have to know where danger lurks. And it lurks in a Dreamer like Boy Idiot.
I don't even know who coaches our O-Line now but whoever does deserves big kudos for our bowl win. Many many years ago I argued on Haven that the O-Line is the most important 'squad' on any team. More important than the skill players. More important than any of the Dee squads. Because if you don't have a good/great o-line NOTHING else works. Skill guys don't skill. Dee guys get worn down. You just freaking LOSE.
If we had as many o-linemen out as folks said whoever coached those backups into giving Veltkamp protection deserves co-MVP.
Do your remember who the Dreamer dreamed of binging in as O-Line coach on a team that had excelled for YEARS? I swear I think he was like a 2nd year O-line coach from either a D3 school or maybe even a high school. Sadly that guy went through awful personal problems and I hope he's okay but my god who would ever do that???? WHO???? Goober Jr did.

Yep, some of these players should be ashamed of themselves. But with NIL and the transfer portal it’s all about “I’m going to get what’s mine” or “what’s in it for me”
