Par for the course, it’s no wonder why nobody can gain any traction coaching this program. Even for as well as Sean Lewis seemed to be at flipping the culture his record was 24-31 because every season is practically guaranteed a 1-3 start before you get into conference play.

We only have to wait until 2026 to see an OOC Go5 school at home -- in their third season in FBS at the time -- in the battle of the KSU's.

Given that Kent State is going to have 3 P5 schools on the schedule, it would be nice if they could get two that are less likely to be in the top 25, but those schools don't tend to pay as much for their buy games.

They were an FCS program when that game was agreed to, and they also took Kent State into overtime before losing 26-23 back in 2019. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Kennesaw State back out of that game and seek a P5 payday to replace that game while Kent State finds a different FCS to try and get their lone OOC win.

Instead of forcing its football program to go through the slaughterhouse every single season giving its coaching staff very little chance at succeeding, why not just scrap the program entirely or drop down to FCS? There are ZERO investments made into that program as far as I can tell. They could reallocate that money into their storied basketball program that's actually worth a damn.

Kent State has been in the MAC since the early 1950s, and the conference is an excellent fit in many respects. While the MAC has let members drop baseball, it isn't as clear (to me at least) whether it would let member stop fielding an FBS football team.

You must have football in your program to be a member of the MAC. Just look at the last few that became members for a few years. They joined with football, even though the Mac wanted them to become full members, and they all dropped out eventually.

KSU appears content to tread water for the time being and see what happens rather than broach that question. And I get it. It was only a few years ago that the Flashes were one win away from playing in the Orange Bowl. Perhaps they can turn it around again.

The Flashes were in the MAC Championship game in 2021. In 2012, they were in the top 25 the last third of the season and one play in OT in the championship game from the Orange Bowl. Several years back it was EMU that was supposed to drop football.

I was not aware of the baseball rule requirement. That may be a precedent for other sports to no longer be required for acceptance. Think the requirement for MAC acceptance is football and basketball as mandatory, and a minimum of six total sports teams.
