I just got back home. It's been a long day. Normally I like to check in on our games and post some updates here.

At first glance it looks like 8-2 on the day. Much better showing for the conference.

Hopefully the Tigers will finally crack the Top 25 this week -- just in time to have a battle between 2 ranked teams on Tuesday.

Yesterday, their NET was 76.

It is still too early to place too much emphasis on NET based on my reading on the subject. I think it becomes reasonably reliable around the start of the new year.

UAB plays Montevallo (1-8) today.

For those interested, Montevallo is a public liberal arts university (the only one of its kind in the state) with 2,600 students founded in 1896 and located in Montevallo, AL (about 30 miles south of Birmingham). They compete in D-II.

SMU is 65 in NET today so Kenpoms last year data is fading out and the NET is settling down. Those numbers should start getting more in sync now with fewer large differences in rankings. Once the conference play starts the NET loops close and it stops having huge swings. You can still make jumps or free falls but its not usually a one game swing. Looks like SMU and Wichita probably have the best chances to get at large with dominant conference play and stealing a couple wins out of their Memphis and FAU games. FAU and Memphis look like they will be quad 1s no matter where you play them. We need everyone else to get themselves in the top 200 so the compounding effect will raise our top half. Anyone outside of that we want to see those top four or five teams blow out so the margin boost offsets the record/rank hit from playing them. Perfect world ECU and UTSA sneak in the top 200 (unlikely) while UAB(wtf??) gets it together for a top 200 team, Charlotte and Tulane get themselves under 90 so they are solid top 100s and Temple gets under 120. Tulsa, USF, and Rice just need to keep getting slightly better and not mess up any of the top 2-3. That would give us a third bid if WSU or SMU dominate everybody else and steal a game or two from Memphis/FAU
