That'll do, Mike. That'll do.

He's been a really good commissioner.

I agree. He played the hand he was dealt about as well as you could play it. I still believe he was colluding with ESPN when Big 12 commissioner Bowlsby sent cease and desist letter when folks thought the Big 12 was going to fall apart. If that could have been kept under wraps no telling what the result would have been.

Never been a fan of Aresco, but I'm sure he did all he could do in an ever changing landscape

Hopefully someone new can help advance the conference or at least hold court until we can get the hell out.;

To be a great leader you have to have vision.
Admittedly, people who can see and navigate trends are few

Maybe we could get George Kliavkoff. I hear he might be available in the near future.

We should vote to lower the salary.
And please don’t get one who loves to visit Texas for the tourneys.

Visit? the HQ is in Dallas.

The best example I can think of of being a victim of his own success.

I hope his successor is that chick from C-USA.

They should hold the press conference at Putt Putt so she can ride out on a golf cart.

that's what I wonder.

I figure the ncaa will try their very bestest to placate the powerful to keep them in the money fold, while pushing the rest of us into the dirt--face first. The ncaa will be the enforcer of the powerful--as they pretty much are now.

that's one scenario anyway
another is the out and out organized rebellion of the ones who don't get into the elite group of colleges

That's not my understanding. This will be a new additional division layered on top of the existing one.

O well.

From almost the very beginning I had doubts about his choices. He could’ve placated the big East imo.
Changing our name to the American was heady… but very telling on his part. His mind was set on a narrow path that did not pan out lol.

He also propped up his ‘chosen’ schools with questionable reffing that hurt us. lol.
Now he deserts the sinking ship … shrug

What was there to placate? The Basketball only schools only focused on their reputation and their money. They balked at schools like Tulane and ECU coming in, and they didn't like the money situation as the expected deal was much less than they thought it would be. UCONN probably should have went with them if it hadn't been for their football team at the time (and they eventually would bail anyway).

I think Aresco did a good enough job of the cards dealt. I was never sure about the brand of the conference name, but it's grown on me. And I'm not exactly sure what vision he should have had in terms of replacing teams leaving. It has long been clear that TV is driving the conference moves, and getting teams in bigger markets was more important than getting teams with radiant success.

He's not great, by any stretch of the imagination. Just not sure what else he could do, but I guess I am not as visionary as some would be here on this board.

passive aggressive insult noted.

Any visionaries of that caliber do not seek the job of conference head...much less exist on this board.

He overestimated the value of his friends and connections, imo. I know I did. lol (overestimate the strength of his connections)

There was at least one path to a better place for our conference-- the law of averages says so..lol.

Just because Aresco couldn't find it and did his best...welp... that doesn't mean no one else could have done better.

The basketball team bolted because their influence was about to decrease big time. They did the right thing.

Passive-Aggressive? Nooooooooooo. Many of you are far more well versed than I am in all of that history. I just remember it all being orchestrated by the Catholic 7 and their...well..holier-than-thou attitude.

I am sure someone could have done better. I just don't possess the hindsight to see that path on my end, but you are certainly right.
