Awesome job, and he earned every penny. Took a loose group got them the exposure and dollars to dominate the G5. Fought hard like a tiger ie the P6 campaign, the access bowl slot. When the other G4 were constantly attacking him (and the AAC), out of competitiveness or jealousy, what they SHOULD have been doing is JOINING us in fighting the exclusion of the P5.

Will never understand the short sightedness of the MWC/MAC/SBC/cUSA crowd... but whatever. We had a terrific decade, which is why all the call ups came almost exclusively from the AAC.

Well done!!

Dang. Aresco is a beast sad to see him go. The guy genuinely cared and fought tooth and nail for the conference and advocated hard not just for the aac but for all non P-5 in forms of equality and fairness. My only gripe was selling the big east name.

RE: Aresco Retiring
He is a commish whose salary was equal to the pay out of his schools on multiple occassions. Who watched UConn and SMU leave for less money. Over saw Houston, UCF, and Cincy getting out the door and who did his best work with the first media deal and then rolled the conference over for his former employers despite the paycheck. His second biggest accomplishment was getting Army. There have been worse, but probably not at the pay rate. Mostly ok with one up and a lot of downs and curves. Unlikely we will get anyone better, but they should be a good deal cheaper and the ROI is likely to be higher just because of that. Also unlikely we will be adding an Olympic partner to go with Army any time soon. Overall this conference is basically where he found it but much lighter in the pocketbook especially when looking at the increased pay outs and expenses over time and where we will finish with the media deal in 2050ish.

He came in with these schools and they left before he did: Louisville, Rutgers, UConn, UCF, Houston, Cincinnati, and SMU. He added (Navy had already agreed) Wichita, Charlotte, UAB, UTSA, Rice, North Texas, FAU, and Army (football only). This conference was the best conference outside the BCS and had the best media deal outside the BCS, he leaves with this conference with arguably the best non-A5 performance and media deal, but both are further behind the A5 than they were the BCS.

He was ok, never accomplished his biggest goal and got paid a lot.

has to be a great hire.. despite the hate, aresco has been an elite commish for the aac..

the hate aresco has gotten is for having insane overly ambitious dreams, and then falling short of those insanely ambitious dreams (as they say shot for the stars landed on the moon)

you dont want to end up with some directionless, defeatist Commish like the MAC and MWC... with the Mac Commish openly admitting that they will never compete for the playoffs 4 years ago... and actively pushing for a g5 playoff... if aresco had signed off on that, there likely isn't a 12 team playoff, and we are prepping for the 1st g5 playoffs

or the mwc who was publicly saying they couldn't compete with the p5, and pac 12...even though the pac 12 was down and the difference wasnt even that big on the field..

overall great tenure for aresco with the cards he was dealt... heres to hoping to get someone with the same drive to push for greatness even when it mgiht be hard to see

I endorse these comments.

Keep the salary at what Aresco is making and we should have some very good candidates.

It would be nice to see an insider with deep connections to either ESPN or CBS sports hired as the next commissioner.

Please don't hire Judy from CUSA. Our conference will have midweek Facebook streams if that happens.

I wonder if we can't get Oliver Luck before the new PAC forms, if he's even interested. That would be a very big hire.

If I was the AAC, I would throw a bunch of money to Danny White (former UCF AD) to leave Tennessee and become our next commissioner.

Because Aresco could have stopped those schools from leaving if he really tried? Because a better commissioner could have gotten them to stay for AAC money instead of bolting for five times the payout?

Good grief.

Aresco played the poison-pill 2 years ago, so I don't suppose it's a big deal at this point.

UConn left for a bigger pay out?

Who negotiated the contract?

If he isn't responsible for those than he is also not responsible for the good things either.

I don’t think there was much he could do about UConn. The Huskies are a basketball first school, and as proven by their move, being in the BigEast was better for their program. Once the money from media wasn’t enough to put up with lower basketball results, the move was imminent.

Danny white makes $2.2 million a year. It would have to be a considerable jump to get him to come on board.

SMU will make slightly better money in the ACC they still get a cut of some of the non-TV money like the CFP money, NCAA money, and bowl game money

they are only giving up the TV money so there is about $12 million or so for SMU
