Crayton's Top 25 Computer Rankings
Don't normally just post my rankings, but this was a controversial finish to the year and I was glad the rankings still reflected the committee's 4 playoff teams (got Liberty too). SOR (Strength of Record) is how strong a team has to be to get that record, given that schedule. SRS (Simple Rating System) is similar to the version Google will find for you, a system of linear equations with a bonus for wins.
RK SOR-SRS (record) Team +/- last week
1) 2310-1755 (13-0) Washington +1
2) 2260-1883 (13-0) Michigan -1
3) 2186-1815 (12-1) Texas +1
4) 2248-1798 (12-1) Alabama +1
5) 2183-1832 (11-1) Ohio State +1
6) 2179-1793 (13-0) Florida St +1
11) 2013-1845 (10-2) Penn State ==
12) 1992-1809 (10-2) Oklahoma ==
13) 2003-1799 (9-3) LSU ==
14) 1906-1681 (13-0) Liberty +1
15) 1886-1681 (10-3) Louisville -1
16) 1872-1795 (9-3) Notre Dame ==
22) 1820-1672 (8-4) Clemson ==
23) 1805-1631 (11-2) Troy +6
24) 1769-1731 (11-2) SMU +10
25) 1814-1546 (9-4) OK State -2
The base of the rankings are the SOR. If the next lower team has a stronger SRS (commonly referred to as "eye test") 'and' a better record (championship, h2h, and/or record), the two flip. I felt ranking by 'only' a number was more a "rating" than a "ranking", so to me these flips/tie-breakers make them more "rankings" and more human.
Texas passes Alabama because of head-to-head. Oklahoma passes LSU because they have 1 fewer loss. SMU and Troy pass OK State because they won their conference (and had fewer losses).
