12 team playoff (2023)
Here's what the 12 team playoff would look like this year using the final CFP rankings.

1. Michigan-bye
2. Washington-bye
3. Texas-bye
4. Alabama-bye

1st round (on campus)

5. Florida State vs. 12. Oklahoma
6. Georgia vs. 11. Ole Miss
7. Ohio State vs. 10. Penn State
8. Oregon vs. 9. Missouri

Yes, I agree. The whole idea of changing the 12-team format next year to 5 + 7, was based on the idea that next year in 2024 there will be only 4 power conferences. So if there were a hypothetical 12-team CFP in 2023, it would be a 6+6 format. Because in 2023 there are still 5 power conferences.

Seen a suggestion from Ross Dellinger that the committee, if this had been the 12 team format, should've swapped Ole Miss and Penn St. to avoid 2 1st round rematches. Heck, Ole Miss has a better resume than Missouri and probably should've been 9th, but nope.

It's also worth noting that OSU would've played Michigan in the B1G CCG instead of Iowa had we been divisionless so maybe we drop to 8th with a loss or jump to 2nd with a win with Michigan sitting at 6th or 7th with a loss.
