Memphis (good with some bad crowds)
Birmingham (bad with some good crowds)
Houston (mostly bad crowds, but had a team in each league)
DC (anemic crowds)

The Houston Gamblers played at the LB. I assume the merged league Houston team will play in Houston.

I also wonder if this is the time to go back to the red & silver Showboats branding?

I'd like to see the old logos in red, but thinking they went with blue to match the stadium/seats/wall padding/etc. Or they didn't have the rights to the old look. Erhart somehow still involved in that I think.

More of a reason to play Memphis just before or just after. Performers love those 2-3 hours bus trips between shows.

There is little debate that the FEF contract damaged the ability for other venues to get acts. The Grizz suit against Graceland is exhibit A. It's one reason Southaven gets more of these groups than Memphis does now.

But I gotta think that there will be language to give the football stadium priority on big stadium shows. One of the upgrades will be to open up the north (I think) endzone tunnel to allow big acts to get their trucks in there.

RE: SBLS related: USFL/XFL merger
I was talking to someone last night who would know about the Graceland issue. She said Graceland's real plan was to make a larger arena than the Sound Stage they currently have, with enough capacity to compete with the Landers Center. The Grizzlies are still trying to block it, claiming it would compete with them. Graceland's argument is that it is for smaller concerts, the ones that Memphis keeps losing to the Landers Center.

I had been wondering if that was still an issue or if it had been addressed.

All the old USFL trademarks had expired. Before moving to Memphis the Bandits used the old USFL colors and logos.

Even more than the old colors and logos i would hope they get rid of that freaking yacht club name. A showboat is a mississippi river paddle boat not a damn yacht.

The agreement with HOOPS Inc didn't apply to the stadium.

Anyone can go and build any new arena they want tomorrow.

But if it is over 5,000 seats the city cannot have any part in construction.

Meaning the city cannot expand utility infrastructure for the facility.

I believe the old BBQ contest and Musicfest have been run out of business by the river park management group. There is a separate group coming in for both events not saddled with the debt and with professional experience managing large events. The plan is for both to be featured on the river where they belong during Memphis in May. Best laid plans?

So they lose the Memphis in May branding but I guess they can still say held “during” MIM!

The problem is with one person who pissed way too many people off. He conveniently retired in the past month to try to get out of the way but it’s probably too late. The city said absolutely not to letting them use tiger lane or the riverfront.

There’s even a contingent of bbq fest teams who don’t participate anymore ready to come back now that he’s gone.

There’s a plan being developed for a music festival and bbq fest. And it doesn’t involve the old Memphis in May people.

It’s time for a change. Watch for the Mempho group to buy the MIM branding.

Not impossible but there are no plans to buy it at this point.
