Bowl Games Outlook
Posters have been dying to do the probabilities for this.

We were at 58 eligible for 82 slots before today's games.

Northwestern is now #59 with their win.

As discussed in the media, James Madison and JAX STATE have priority over 5 - 7 teams but not at the expense.of a 6 win team.

The following teams got their 6th win today:

Northwestern
San Jose State
Texas Tech
Arkansas State
Western Kentucky
South Alabama
Wisconsin
Georgia Tech

We are at 66 right now, with 82 slots to fill.

Teams that could get to six wins next week:
EMU
CMU
NIU
Mississippi State
Nebraska
TCU
Utah State
Navy
BYU
Rice
Virginia Tech
Syracuse
UCF
Old Dominion
Louisiana Lafayette
Illinois
Minnesota
Marshall
Washington State
Florida
South Carolina
California
South Florida
Colorado State

Also, for what it’s worth, Army can get to six wins if they beat Navy in “the game”. Now you know who to root against.

So, 25 teams above still have a chance. If we win and nine others lose, we’re in. If we take care of business, I like our chances.

How does the Army/Navy thing work? If Navy loses to SMU then both schools would be 5-6 going into their game with each other, but that is always AFTER the bowl games are announced.

RE: Bowl Games Outlook
Here is a guide of who all these teams play and their records. Again, we obviously have to win and then it'd be nice for at least eight of these teams to lose. The team that is still alive is listed first:

Tuesday
Eastern Michigan @ Buffalo 3-8

Thursday
Mississippi State vs Ole Miss 9-2

Friday
TCU @ Oklahoma 9-2
Nebraska vs Iowa 9-2
Central Michigan vs Toledo 10-1
Utah State @ New Mexico 4-7

Saturday
Navy is 5-5 @ SMU 9-2
South Florida vs Charlotte 3-8
Rice vs Florida Atlantic 4-7
Virginia Tech @ Virginia 4-8
Syracuse vs Wake Forest 4-7
BYU @ Oklahoma State 8-3
Central Florida vs Houston 4-7
Illinois vs Northwestern 6-5
Minnesota vs Wisconsin 6-5
Northern Illinois @ Kent State 1-10
Colorado State @ Hawaii 4-8
Cal @ UCLA 7-4
Washington State @ Washington 11-0
Florida vs Florida State 11-0
South Carolina vs Clemson 7-4
Old Dominion vs Georgia State 6-5
Marshall vs Arkansas State 6-5
Louisiana vs UL-Monroe 2-9

Also, Army plays Navy but not until December, not sure how that plays into the bowl selection process.

Glad I woke up late, you saved me some work. If those games go the way they are expected to I see space for a 6-6 EMU. Beat Buffalo!

Good question. SMU is going to be a huge favorite against Navy. If SMU wins, both Navy and Army would be 5-6. At that point I could see the Armed Forces Bowl saying we will take the winner of “the game”, whoever that may be.

That’s the easy outcome. If Navy were to beat SMU and become bowl eligible, I have no idea how they would handle Army.

RE: Bowl Games Outlook
Good news, Army is out so that is one less team to worry about.

This is from a College Football News article:

"Army
Who's Next? Navy
Will Army Go To A Bowl? No (But there’s a catch, Army played Delaware State and Holy Cross, and it can’t have two of the six wins being against FCS teams.)"

So even if they finish 6-6 they won't make a bowl.

RE: Bowl Games Outlook
Just for fun, I’m predicting that the following teams will win their sixth game this week:

-Nebraska (v. Iowa)
-Utah State (v. New Mexico)
-Minnesota (v. Wisconsin)
-UCF (v. Houston)
-Northern Illinois (v. Kent State)
-Rice (v. FAU)
-Syracuse (v. Wake Forest)
-Old Dominion (v. Georgia State)
-LA Lafayette (v. UL Monroe)
-Illinois (v. Northwestern)
-Virginia Tech (v. Virginia)
-Marshall (v. Arkansas State)
-South Florida (v. Charlotte)
-Colorado State (v. Hawaii)

I think I’m being pretty liberal with my projections here. Even if these 14 teams win this week, there would still be room for us. Let’s go Eagles!

Great stuff, and good to know about Navy since they have a tough SMU team this week.

RE: Bowl Games Outlook
At this point we want at least eight of the 23 teams still alive to lose...however I wonder if that number is actually one?

The MAC has six direct bowl tie-ins (Bahamas, Camellia, Potato, LendingTree, Arizona, and Quick Lane) and then get two spots out of five bowls the group of five share. So my thought is; do those six with direct MAC tie-ins HAVE to take a MAC school first? If that is the case then we'd only need one team (either CMU or NIU to lose), or if there are lets say 84 bowl eligible teams (there are 82 spots) but only five of them are MAC schools, could one of those six teams bypass a MAC school?

If those six have to take a MAC school first, we should be in good shape. Currently there are five MAC school bowl eligible with a pretty good chance for a sixth since NIU plays Kent State, but with CMU playing Toledo (who is obviously really good) the odds of only six MAC schools making it is fairly high.

RE: Bowl Games Outlook
Does anyone know how EMU is paid for playing in a bowl game?

What I do know...
-Creighton earns 25k as part of his contract for earning a bowl berth and I believe another 25k for winning it. If he wins the bowl game as his 7th win he gets an additional 10k. (Do his assistants get a raise?)

-I believe the MAC bowl participating schools are a part of a revenue sharing effort, right? meaning if 6 schools get bowl berths and the total pay out to those 6 schools are 1.2 million for example would each school get 200k?

-I also thought the bowl hosts give tix to each school to sell which helps their costs. I know EMU has always encouraged fans to purchase tix through them.

Any thoughts? I know a few of you guys are smarter than I when it comes to this stuff. Would love to see the football program benefit even a little financially from this

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that we go to Quick Lane or play the bowl that’s in Charlotte.

Going bowling for a 3rd consecutive season, has to help recruiting. Get’er done Coach Creighton!
