I’m not sure how bball ranking works, but it would be pretty cool if both football and mens basketball were ranked at the same time. If anyone has a better idea of how college bball top 25 rankings work, please inform.

Thank you. I’m not trying to be a greedy duke, but it’d be pretty effin cool if we could add that accolade to the 2023 sports season.

Whether the threshold is 3-0, 6-0 or 9-0 for basketball is the only question. We should at the very least be receiving significant votes after the MSU win, if we don’t drop other games.

We better win some ball games first. Everyone around here is really tempting fate!

Right now, football is the reality. No, I did not expect JMU football to be ranked so soon and definitely not two years in a row.
As for MBB, I feel like we need we are getting a bit too far ahead.
We had an incredible win against MSU. And our team looked really darn good. Our future looks bright.
But we have a really, really tough next two games. Even after the MSU win, Coach By in postgame was already talking about the challenge going to Kent State.
And then there's Howard. Both teams had over 20 wins last season.
There's a chance Kent State tells us more about our team than MSU did. Perhaps good, perhaps bad.
Winning those three will give us a good chance at being ranked, but I think there's more to it.
It is also going to depend on what MSU does moving forward. If they lose again, their stock is going to absolutely plummet and that win looks far less impressive. Same goes for Kent State and Howard.

If MSU had shot even a tiny bit less than god-awful from 3 or the FT line, we lose. Maybe even badly. So simmer down.

Yes it is possible. I would never have guessed JMU would be 2-0 in hoops with two impressive wins on the road.

I think that we will be favored at home but Howard looks like a good team. Lost 85-88 against Georgia Tech tonight.

Maybe the basketball team has taken some of the distraction off the football team. Cignetti teams are extremely focused I find and I think this game is no different.

Howard becoming a huge must win game against a tough opponent.

Hope we pack the house at AUBC Sunday. This team deserves big time support.

Beat Howard that is the most important game at moment. And it could be the game that really puts JMU at or close to top25. Gotta win and fix some of the things hurting the Dukes.

Same might be said about JMU’s shooting against MSU.

It’s early in the season and the 2023 edition of the JMU MBB team has shown us a couple things quite clearly. There’s talent and depth on the roster, and the team is well coached. They are also incredibly gritty, resilient and poised.

The early OT road wins against MSU and Kent are going to help bolster the team’s confidence….and potentially shoot it straight up into the stratosphere. What a difference Coach By has made on the program!

PS…I think the quality of the AUBC, the sold out home win over UVA, the recent OT Ws, especially against MSU, the media hype over the FB program’s success, AND the ability to see JMU MBB games on ESPN+ are all working together to help make Coach By’s recruiting efforts more successful.

As much angst that has been generated over thinking Cig might be poached, my concern is that Coach By could be the first JMU HC to be hired away. He’s young and he’s proven he can recruit, turn losing programs around, and win big regular-season games. The only missing line on his resume is no post-season appearances. A couple NCAAT appearances…heck, even just one NCAAT appearance if it’s something like an Elite 8…could see needy programs opening up their checkbooks to lure him away from JMU. Just like ETSU’s former HC, a P5 will come a courtin’…hopefully Coach By will have reestablished JMU MBB as a national entity with regular NCAAT appearances by then.
