Hopefully they continue to play well. JMU played like a top 25 team against Michigan State. Can they continue that against Kent State?

Imagine if the 3point shot is there on a consistent basis?

My concern is for a big let down against Kent State. But the team does seam poised.

It'sld be great to see Freidel have a great shooting game - and protect the ball better. He looks stronger physically and love the hustle

Hoping to see only 22 fouls called this game instead of the 32 from Monday.

Maybe Andrey Semenov but definitely not Andre Seminov.

I don’t know much about Kent St. this year but thank goodness they lost Sincere Carry. Losing a dynamic 18 PPG, 4 RPG, 5 APG, 1.5 STL/G guard is a big hole to fill.

Matter of fact, they don’t have any of the guys that gave us fits back in 2021.

Preseason:

Picked to finish 2nd in the MAC

6’7” F Chris Payton - 1st Team Preseason All-MAC

5’10” G Jalen Sullinger - 2nd Team Preseason All-MAC

Payton dunks...and dunks...and well he dunks. Outside of that not enough to warrant all conference IMO, unless he's all of a sudden developed a jump shot. The other night it seemed he got called for travelling almost every time he got the ball as he was trying to hurry up and dunk over an undermatched team. Sullinger heats up but the guard to watch for is Gio Santiago. Like many mid majors they lack size and will run a smaller unit out there, smaller than what JMU has.

In reality this should be a really fun game to watch between two good midmajors. Maybe Polish Hammer can confirm but this seems like a game where guard play and speed is going to matter for both sides.

Byington has said he may have to play different this year and this game could give us some insight.
Will he play big and scrap his preferred small ball up tempo game?

Seems like JMU could throw a couple of bigs in the lineup and attempt to play off the interior , but that might create a problem on defense if he doesn’t use a zone.

I remember Santiago hurting the Dukes with 3’s two years ago in the Naples tourney. I believe he was a lefty and played well off the ball because he wasn’t the focus. With several of their studs gone now, we’ll see if he can handle the spotlight.

Road games are hard to win and I’m not confident the Dukes can pull this off after their biggest road win ever. Lots of emotion got used in that game. Can they do it twice in a row? Not if they shoot 37% again. Need to see better offense against a team that is good but not nearly as good as Michigan State.
