I think wvu and ucf will be seeing a lot of each other in the years to come.

RE: New 16-team football format for Big 12 releasing (Nov 1st)
My immediate reaction is I like it better than a pod system. With all due respect to UCF and WVU, I would rather play everyone over time that provides the most scheduling flexibility and alternating 4/5 road games helps with travel costs and fans.
Quote:The Big 12 Conference has announced its 16-team, four-year scheduling matrix for the 2024-27 football seasons. The scheduling model was developed with a priority on geography, historic matchups and rivalries as well as competitive balance.
“As we look towards the future of this Conference, we are thrilled to introduce the first football scheduling matrix for the new-look Big 12,” said Commissioner Brett Yormark. “I’m grateful to our membership for their support throughout the scheduling process. In this model, competitive balance and student-athlete wellness was prioritized. Rivalries will be protected and new matchups will be introduced – the excitement and parity this Conference is known for will continue for years to come.”
During the four years, all teams will play one another at least once home and away. Some matchups will occur over three seasons while others take place in all four. Matchups in 2024 that were also played in 2023 will not repeat at the same site.
The Conference looked to maintain the current 5/4, 4/5 home/away rotation for all 16 members to minimize non-conference scheduling disruptions. Other important factors were balancing annual travel by distance and time zones as well as maintaining connectivity to rivalries without compromising a balanced rotation for all teams.

I agree. I like that we play everyone as much as possible. That’s what conferences should do

From a UH perspective I really like it. I’m sure some of the older schools will be upset about the lack of protected rivalries but the good news is this only runs through 2027. So things can always be tweaked going forward.

In this format we play everyone home and home over four years and play three games each against Kansas St, Iowa St, WVU, UCF, Houston and TCU. From a geography and travel perspective it makes sense.

I'm happy with it. Big 12 doesn't need too many manufactured rivalries. Conference Realignment is fluid. ACC could implode in 7 years and we add Louisville, Pitt and more established rivalries.

the only bright spot that I can see is that OSU doesn't have to go to Cincy until 2027, maybe they can fix up that rinky stadium by then.
ROTFLMAO - you know you deserve that statement

Obviously happy the Revivalry is being protected. But hate that the conference didn't keep Farmageddon as a protected rivalry. I'm guessing they didn't want any schools having more than 1 protected rivalry and keeping that one would have given KState 2.
Also wish we could keep playing Tech every year, or even have Tech/OSU play every year since OSU is losing Bedlam. But I get it. They want everyone to play everyone. Overall, I'm ok with the new scheduling format. Not thrilled, but I don't hate it either.

don't wish that crap on us, we would prefer not to play Tech at all.
and you can't sit there with a straight face and tell me that TCU/BU is a "rivalry game".

From what I have seen this schedule has upset some Big12 fans. Being a fan of a team that will join next year I am not so familiar with what teams are considered rivals with next years teams. Within the eight tenured teams still in the 12 who do you consider to be rivals?

KSU, KU, and ISU have been playing near annually for 100 years.
Tech and Baylor about the same. TCU wandered the wilderness for 15 years but has been with those other Texas schools for about the same time.
Houston, Cincy, UCF, and WVU have not had strong rivalries with any current Big 12 school over the last quarter century.

RE: New 16-team football format for Big 12 releasing (Nov 1st)
I like the scheduling, but this coming from a team with no real connections to any one except Cincinnati and Houston, marginally. The Big 12 is forging an identity, and I think we all suspect that there will be four more members joining in the next decade. Better to play everyone as much as possible, then revisit the scheduling when teams like (for example) Louisville, Pitt, VT, and Miami are members, and there are more permanent rivalries that make sense.
In the meantime, UCF plays only Arizona State away, from the westernmost teams. That should help us save some money while we wittle away the time until full media shares
