Rice enrollment up almost 50% since 2009? That's actually shocking.

I thought's Rice entire approach to admissions was to be as selective as possible and stay small? Did leadership change direction on that Owls?

Compared to Stanford, you're not very selective, but 9% is nothing to sneeze at. Take Tulsa for example. They think they're selective but accept 69% of their applicants, something that would make clt quite proud.

Just the R would suffice. You are better than Tarlton, UTA, UTRGV etc…. This isn’t smack, I’m seriously trying to help!

I don't care for it either

You are effing RICE, the top academic university in Texas and don’t need your logo inside the state outline. Fire whoever hired the high school student that came up with it

Not every body knows we’re in Texas

Sometimes you have to spell it out for them.

Here it is. “R”. In Texas.

Any questions?

Yes I have a question. Why would an ignorant moron that knows nothing about your school need to know you are in Texas?

I think it more as a marketing ploy to say we are serious about football after too many years of looking like a university just going through the motions in a conference full of Middle Southern International State alphabet schools. I like it. The State of Texas logo adds swagger.

This Forbes article sums up the reasoning for the growth.

Can’t argue with this logic.

Yes, and this Houston Chronicle preview sums it up.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-s...466790.php

Who wins the first quarter and controls the line of scrimmage? It has been many years since Rice was in the conversation for controlling the line of scrimmage.

The preview reminds of the disappointment that Rice did not finish off Tulane in a game they coulda, woulda, shoulda won. Next chance to put up a solid W is at 6:30 tonight in front of the Homecoming crowd.

In 2012, last meeting, Rice came in 4-6 and looking to be a bit of a very long shot to beat SMU let alone win the last two to qualify for a bowl.

Current Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell hit five FG including an NCAA record three from 50+ yards (!) in the Owls upset.

I seem to recall we dominated the line of scrimmage pretty well that day, too

The Mayor's Cup Returns….
Rice and SMU will meet for the 91st time in their history and will resume competing for the Mayor's
Cup, which was first introduced in 1998. That season, the mayor of Houston (Lee Brown) and Dallas (Ronald Kirk) announced the creation of the trophy, which would go to the winner of the football game between the two schools. The Owls won the first meeting, 23-17 in
overtime, the first overtime game in history for the owls. Thanks to a 36-14 win in the most recent
meeting in 2012, Rice holds an 8-6 edge in games played for the trophy.

um, well, Both schools are in the American (this year only,
most Rice personnel, especially younger to middle-aged ones, are diametrically oppsed to folks like the Gipper, either one of them. Not that that's a good thing, it just is.
Do hope we give a good showing tonight.

Rice is in, SMU is out. "Win one for the Gipper," is from a movie. Are you trying to make this a stupid political statement?

Wasn't sure what you were referring to. So, it seems the movie Gipp, who was at Notre Dame, (played by the famous actor in the movie). While Rice doesn't have anything in common with the movie-era Gipp, it seems it does have a lot in common with today's version of Notre Dame. As for SMU, well, it probably won't be that long a wait before some or many of us in today's American are back in a conference with them again. Still hope we have decent showing for the football fans tonight.

Indeterminate. I suppose it boils down to if and when someone figures out how to hack the GOR. Regarding the game, GO OWLS!
