Harrisonburg Alumni Chapter is hosting a watch party at Stable Craft Brewing. $25 deal for 2 beverages and an appetizer with mention of the Chapter.

I know we need to worry about ODU first, but I'm genuinely not sure how good this GSU team is. I'll need to look up their defensive stats to really tell the tale on if they're improved or just outscoring against bad opponents. Troy did handle them easily on the defensive side of the ball.

Grainger and Carroll are an excellent QB/RB duo. They have athletes all over their D, they are a solid team perfectly capable of winning. Troy was able to dominate them, but I think Grainger will present some problems.

Big game for both Georgia schools this Thursday.

First of all need to beat ODU this week.

As for GSU I think the Troy game is a bit misleading as GSU lead at the half 7-6. Turnovers also told the story as I believe Troy won that battle 3-0.

This will not be an easy game in any way.

I agree. This Georgia State game is going to be tough.
Of the remaining schedule, this is the game I'm most concerned about. I believe if we win this one, we sweep.
Big game.

Thankfully as fans, we don't need to be focused. I have full confidence in our team to be focused on ODU.

Question for anyone who has been to GSt stafium. Wife and I will be at the game on our way back from a few days in FL. Tickets were bought from the JMU allotment which I believe will be in Section 134/135. As the Stadium is a former MLB ballpark does anyone know what kind of seat are in these sections? Are they bleacher type or typical ballpark chairbacks etc? Reason I am asking is that I need to know if I need to bring my folding stadium seats with me or not. If I do not don't want to schlep them around if not needed. Thanks to anyone who can help. If no one has any idea I will post in the main SBC board when the GSt/JMU thread goes up next week.

Thanks.

Go Dukes!!

judging from the thumbnail, I'm pretty sure they're chair-style seats:

You may want to confirm with the ticket office where the seats are. They told me sec 100 and 101 was the JMU allotment

Didn’t GSU lead JMU last season? And JMU needed a rather dramatic come from behind run to pull out a close win?

The 2023 GSU team is legit, and their QB can be elite if he’s having a good day. IMO this season he’s been more effective than the Coastal dud (I mean dude). The game in Atlanta will be tough…the toughest left on the schedule…but first let’s hope JMU stays focused and avoids an upset by ODU.

Center Parc Stadium was built for the 96 Olympics and became Turner Field in 97 as the home of the Braves until 2016. So most of seats are chairbacks, as with most Baseball Stadiums, but I am not sure about seats that were added to make it more of a Football configuration. I would imagine since it was configured for Baseball that the site lines and viewing angles might be less than optimal.

I thought we lacked our normal energy level against Norfolk Community College. I hope it returns against Gag State. Although we beat Southern 41-13 and they blistered Gag State 44-27, I believe this will be a tough game to win.

We MUST find a way to be able to run the ball. Designed runs by McCloud is the answer.

GA State will be the latest team to present something new to test our coaching staffs ability to game plan.

We have not faced a qb all year who can run the ball as well as grainger.
It’s likely we’ll need Fisher to stay in middle zone to spy on him. Which leaves the edges a little more vulnerable.

The key will be for our ends to not get sucked inside to keep him in that pocket and for fisher to be a sound tackler when grainger inevitably breaks past the line.

If we stop that play and him from breaking containment and running, I think we won’t have much trouble. Grainger is not a terribly accurate thrower. So we need to make him have to complete tough passes.

On offense, I’ll think we’ll move the ball. Need to convert red zone opportunities into 6 points, not 3. I expect 30+ for the game.

JMU -5.5. Almost every SBC game has a betting line of less than a TD next week.

Agree

And he should probably stick to the designed play....his improvisation AT the line is way less effective than once he gets moving... adjust that and throw to the open guys - and we can't be stopped

Will be curious to see how we respond against a good GAST team. Yes they lost to GaSouth, but doesn't mean they don't have a good team.

They are at home, I bet they scheme for an up tempo game. Though I am not sure they can mimick the same as ODU. Guess we'll see.

Wish I can be at this one. Maybe this will become Bridgeforth South.....

Hope we get a nice turnout with a big chunk of fans, but taking over Atlanta/Georgia St feels pretty unlikely. A case could be made for the University of Thomas Jefferson at Charlottesville, should we play them on a regular basis.

Fake GSU runs a true read option with the QB keeping 50% of the time and Grainger is a good threat. JMU has to devote an extra defender to account for the QB run and I suspect Cig throws in the 3 LB alignment we’ve seen a few times this year against run heavy teams.

Of course, when you put an extra guy in the box, that leaves more space for easy play action passes.
I like the Dukes’ chances to stifle Fake GSU’s running game and get sacks/picks when they are forced to pass.

JMU made a huge comeback last year after fake GSU had not one, but two fumble returns for TD’s in the first half.
Lightning does not strike 3 times for lucky fumble returns and fake GSU gets handled rather easily.

JMU 34
Fake GSU 23
