For the new Pac Conference a primer:

BC - An analogue to Michigan, 60K students, 24th in ARWU world
Alberta - A Pitt analog, 42 students, 91 in ARWU world
Calgary - An Iowa or NC State analog, 201-300 ARWU world, 35K students
Simon Fraser and Victoria - Georgia/Kansas/Miami analogs, 301-400 ARWU world

The problem is that Canada doesn't want to be monetized. It's been considered before by Canadian universities and except for one school they've decided they don't want to do it. Given everything going on with the NCAA, players unionizing and NIL, can you blame the Canadian universities? In any case, even if you could persuade a Canadian school to join a power conference, it's not clear that they'd attract many spectators or TV viewers. There's just not much of a tradition of Canadians watching Canadian university athletic teams. There's also the problem that even the strongest Canadian university athletic teams compete at the Division II level at best. It would be a huge and extremely expensive endeavor to get from there to the NCAA power conference level. And how would a Canadian university ever be competitive in football? There isn't a lot of Canadian HS football talent.

Canadians will flock to the TV set to watch a Canadian anything try to whip a US anything. Canada might be able to support 4-5 P-4 type programs not that any of them would be beyond middling compared to a US counterpart. But on occasion they would beat a US based team.

That's a lot of expense just to get pounded into the dirt 2/3rds of the time. Would Canadians watch that? Is there an untapped Canadian college game demand that we don't know about? How many Canadian College football teams have 50K seat stadiums?

The answer to your first two questions is yes. Regarding the large stadiums, I dont know., but probably none. Living in "Southern Canada" as some of you have described Upstate NY, I have met alot of Canadians and I can tell you that quite a few that I have met have an interest in American sports, including college football but especially college basketball. There was a lot of buzz when SU played these teams, back when SU was really good. Carlton, I think it was, came into the dome one year and almost beat SU, and that was a year SU went to the final four.

Regarding college football, certain Canadian schools could really step up to the plate, especially several in Quebec and Ontario.

Regarding Canadian Schools joining the ACC. Only University of Toronto or McGill makes sense but neither has the culture to support college football yet. They would have to develop a 10-15 year plan.

How valuable is the Pac12 trademarked name? Does the name and history die with the conference? Could the ACC purchase the name and turn it into its “Magnolia league” division and get a double amount of playoff ͏Au͏to bids and NCAA credits?

PAC = Stan, Cal UVA, Duke, Wake, UNC, UM, SMU, BC, Tulane, ND (5 game football)

ACC = FSU, USF, UL, Clem, NCSU, GT, Pitt, VT, SU, Cinci, UConn (5 game football)
