That play and the refs stopping the game to tell our alumni band to stop playing really riled up the crowd.
I remember the 2009 game vs JMU. That was a nice day, nice game which we dominated. The 2015 game, also homecoming vs JMU, was a bit more dramatic. Velazquez returned a pick 6 about 80yds late Q4 for a 17-7 win.
A few others:
1990s: a game ending FG beat Villanova 18-15
1985: against Richmond (8-1) - we had Stan Yagiello. 28-17 win. Students took down goalposts and was a Zable record crowd over 18,000.
2016: vs Delaware, we won 24-17 after entering Q4 down 14-3. Another big pick 6, 70+ yards, gave us a 17-14 lead.
Sometimes, there were downsides at Homecoming too.
The worst in my time was 1977 vs Rutgers. We were winning 21-16 and running out the clock in Rutgers territory. We fumbled with about 40 seconds on their 35yl or about. Rutgers threw two passes, the second a TD and won the game 22-21. Many had already left and were in disbelief we lost.

The 17-21 loss to Vanderbilt in 1972 was a tough homecoming as well.

RE: Homecoming vs Towson
Game prediction from the Analyst/Hero Sports.
Towson at No. 13 William & Mary
W&M has been going down in the rankings. The Tribe haven’t looked too sharp offensively, and have a loss to now-unranked Elon. After a bye week following a loss to FBS Virginia, the team looks to finish the season strong in hopes of a seed and another deep playoff run.
Towson will be no pushover, though. The Tigers may be 2-4, but they beat ranked New Hampshire 54-51 in overtime a few weeks ago and then gave ranked UAlbany a scare, losing 24-17. New head coach Pete Shinnick has this program heading in the right direction.
Expect W&M to come out strong for its Homecoming. Scoring 34, 23, 15, 28, 6, and 13 points is a surprise for an offense bringing back several starters, even with standout RB Bronson Yoder sidelined with an injury. Christian Taylor is a great offensive coordinator, though, and the Tribe may have figured some things out with its bye week. Finishing promising drives will be an emphasis.
Prediction: William & Mary 31-24

RE: Homecoming vs Towson
A good matchup today coming out of the bye. Not a powerhouse with momentum and not a bottom feeder we can coast by. From what I’ve seen of them, Towson seems like your standard middle of the pack CAA team.
If we execute and play smart, we should win this by a few scores.
I think the gameplan, much to the dismay of cranky fans who want to see some air yards, will be to run the ball and play good defense. Especially when you look at who our pass catchers are. The bright side is, if we execute that plan in the first half, we should have some open looks to take shots in the 2nd.
Go Tribe!

Could be most important game of the season to date here in the pancake capital of the world. Hoping to see a return to the 2022 offensive balance.

Yes, and that will be true of every other remaining game as we play them. Definitely can’t afford another loss if we want a playoff bye and a second round home game.

We moved the ball well at times against UVA. Towson is not UVA. I want to see at least 30 points today. I don't care if we get them on offense or defense, but we have to start scoring TDs.

Really wanted 6 but that was a good opening drive, especially for Wilson.

Everyone must be at the game.
I didn’t like the last 3 minutes but thankfully Towson missed that FG. Would have given them a boost into 2H.
Up 17-3 for anyone checking here. Let’s get a score to open the 2H.

Great first half. What an awful - and unbelievable - 3rd quarter.

20 unanswered points. Playoff chances for this season falls squarely on the offense on this possibly last possession.

9-14 for 64 passing yards in 2023. This isn't a serious offense. London's selling snake oil.

London's agent hopes so- he might be able to scam a contract from a desperate MAC school if W&M gets to the postseason.

Ballgame. Credit Towson.
Team will have to run the table the rest of the way to make the playoffs. Just don't see that happening. Disappointing season.

Mike London should be dismissed tonight…but at minimum he should be gone at the end of the year. Disgusting homecoming performance in all facets. The alumni in the end zone were NOT happy to say the least. There is a reason London was fired from UVA. The reason is he sucks. Period.
