I point back to 20-21 and those 2 Houston losses all the time...
3/7/21 @ 9/7 Houston L 64-67
3/13/21 AAC Tourney #7 Houston L 74-76
Two losses to top 10 team in Texas by avg of 2.5 pts. Both of those games were winnable.
Win 1 of those and who knows --- but you'd be playing in the NCAA tourney instead of being NIT champs.
As far as this years team goes, talent isn't my concern. Chemistry is.
I'd rather face a brutal stretch of games later in the season when you've had time to gel than early on when you're still trying to figure each other out.
If Penny can get those guys on the same page to start the season, then this can be a HUGE year.
Game 2 @ Mizzou
Game 4 Battle 4 Atlantis vs Michigan
Game 5 B4A Arkansas or Stanford
Game 6 B4A TBD
Game 7 @ Ole Miss
Game 8 @ VCU
Game 9 @ aTm
Game 10 Clemson
Game 11 Virginia
Game 12 Vanderbilt
Just a few cupcakes at home sprinkled in
Game 1 Jackson State
Game 3 Alabama State
Game 13 Austin Peay
All of that between 11/6 and 12/30. Eight weeks to get as many wins as you can. Then conference play starts and you better pick up wins left and right.
With 18 conference games during the season, if we go 15-3, 16-2 or 17-1 and get out of non-conf play 11-3 or better, we'd definitely be top 25 looking at a nice seed.
I'm hoping that with a starting lineup full of upperclassmen, the two exhibitions and the Jackson State game will be enough to dial things in before we face Mizzou.
