I see. We certainly don't need him with a father like that. Shades of Elgin Bates.

So on the Memphis Tiger Basketball fan page on Facebook, if you search under one of the member's, Antonio Harvey, post. Billy Richmond comes in hot and bashes Penny pretty good. There were about 100 post responding saying Billy is out of line especially saying all this on social media for everyone to see on a fan page while his son is a high level recruit and has Memphis recruiting him heavy. There was talk of even boycotting The Wing Guru...haha it go heated when they started bring up hot wings on a Memphis Fan page!

I think Billy raises a legitimate point in terms of the NIL.

I pulled my NIL donation when that female player sucker punched an opponent. It now goes to a much more worthy cause, St Jude.

I think the NIL, if we aren’t able to land in a better conference, will ultimately force us to make a difficult decision with football.
There is a finite pool of funds.

Billy is a hot head with no filter. If "speaking the truth" is coming on a fan page and saying our coach is full of **** and bashing is coaching abilities then go ahead, but I couldn't care less if we sign his son now. Recruiting is more than fine, as we will see with this team this season. As for NIL money, yea give what you can afford to give, but at the end of the day this amateur sports we are talking about. The NIL world is crazy right now and everyone is trying to grab what they can while there are no parameters and rules for it.

The funds dry up eventually to. Right now it is an arms race but that cannot last forever. Do we really think that fans and donors going to continue to poor millions into recruiting NIL deals to finish 4th, 5th, and below in their own conference let alone in national rankings?

Doubtful we finish 4th or worse in the conference for football or basketball this season. Do you feel otherwise?

I agree that we will finish above 4th but I was not referring to us. I am referring to schools like Arkansas, Miss State, and other middle of the road Big 10/SEC/BIG 12 teams. I do not see their donors continually pouring millions annually into NIL deals just to continually be middle of the road conference teams.
For the moment, however, I think all major P5 teams and donors feel like if they just outspend everyone else then they have a shot to rise to the top. That is delusional thinking IMO and like say at some point reality will set in that they will never outspend and outperform the Alabamas and Ohio States of the world.

Ah, right. It's certainly not an equitable system, and there should be some form of upper limit established, similar to salary caps for pro leagues. It will be interesting to see how things develop over time as the "arms race" escalates.

Why?
You think Jaykwon Walton, Jordan Brown, Jahvon Quinerly, David Jones, Caleb Mills came here to play for free?
I think Billy is probably upset that he ain't getting Quinerly money, and that Penny is choosing to use his NIL on proven NCAA vets.

You may be on to something there - hadn't looked at it that way....

That player got sucker punched while the game was ongoing and nothing was done about it...
Would've been best if she got her hit back during the game though...

If you’ve seen the tape, there was no “sucker punch” during the game.

Thank you, I was about to say that. And our player actually punched the wrong person based on what happened on that play.

I don't understand how anybody can try to justify our player's actions in that situation. No matter how you spin it, it was a trash move and reflected poorly on the school.
