Going independent because he knows the democrat party is filled with half wits who spout off about grifters, don't care about America and are too stupid to recognize the hatred their leaders have for anyone else not an elite.

Grift? He always has questioned vaccine safety plus wokeness dominates the democrat party grift; the more ones woke the more money comes in. Doing the opposite gets you run out of it

He cant help himself. He is pre-programmed to react stupidly to anything that doesn't conform to the radical lefts narrative.

The thirst for a leader who is not beholden to the corporate media, the lobbying/consulting class, the academic/political class, etc. — is palpable. I think people are willing to forgive/overlook a LOT of ideological heresy in exchange for that.

Quote:Also I don't really trust his own unpublished internal polling. I'm sure someone will do some actual published polling soon on it to see.
I smell a rat on the polling-data, as well. It is incredibly convenient for RFK’s campaign to say that (“we take more votes from Trump”) because that is reassuring to the corporate media and the political class. As long as they believe it’s true, they will gladly help RFK get on the November ballot. I think when the smoke clears, history will tell a different story. But we’ll see.

RE: RFK Jr planning to announce a independent presidential run
I mean people on the right like RFK Jr way more than people on the left do. Been that way all year.

I get it. He's way left on some issues but he's at least not trying to hide what he thinks and he speaks truth to power. And yes, there are people who will vote for him due to not wanting to hold their nose for Trump.

20-30 years ago, RFK Jr could have made some real headway as what used to pass as a centrist democrat. Now he's just a candidate with no real party.

The irony of RFK, Jr’s politics is his father was basically today’s neoliberal; while his uncle John would be today’s neoconservative.

JFK’s assassination had a profound impact on many people, and perhaps no one more than his wife Jackie or his brother RFK. RFK, in particular, became much more left-wing/liberal than he had ever been while JFK was alive.

This. In the 2004 primary cycle, you had Richard Gephardt and Joseph Lieberman basically running as the candidates trying to put together a pre-Clinton coalition. There just wasn’t a political market for that approach anymore (John Kerry got the nomination), and no one else had seriously even attempted to do it again until RFK this year.

Yep. Not to get too off path but guys like Lieberman and Sam Nunn would have no place in todays Democratic Party (largely in name only).

Nor would Dick Gephardt. The really interesting question is whether Bill Bradley would have a place. I actually think that Bradley was highly enough respected that he might have been able to talk some sense into them. Bradley and Gephardt were the authors of the 1986 tax law that reduced income tax rates to 15%/28%/33%.

This reduction triggered followers all over Europe. The reduction of top tax rates in Europe has been quite an amazing development to watch over the last 30 years.

The moderates in both parties have no place anymore.

I guess next well be hearing about how the new right loves Karl Marx, because he's a straight talker who wants to tear down the current regime. The people on the NEW right are getting easier to fool every year. As long as the dudes an outsider apparently they will go for anyone. And people are still calling this Bernie Sanders look alike in regards to politics a centrist. lol.

He's better than Biden or Harris or Newsom. That doesn't make him very good.

Would that get him in the debates? Or would his party have had to had over 5% in the last election cycle?

RGK Jr on the agenda to speak at CPAC. Yeah, that CPAC.

Tell me again who he thinks his demographic sweet spot is?

No idea why he's doing this but it is sure starting to feel like he's been talked into being a straw man.

I’m not so sure that RFK running wouldn’t hurt Trump as the campaign goes along. Two anti establishment candidates versus one? Feels like a split vote to me

Both Trump and Biden* would lose voters to RFK; I suspect Joe would lose more. Hard to estimate how many more.

I agree that an RFK third-party run is more a threat to the right than it is to the left. The right is far less likely to vote it party-lockstep.

BUT, I will say that IF Joe Biden is the Democrat candidate in 2024, there will be an embarrassment factor that may swing this the other way. As dislikeable a person as Donald Trump is, he is still nowhere near as embarrassing a pile of political vomit as Joe Biden. I can see some lesser-of-two-evil voters siding with Trump in that situation, or voters who otherwise would have supported the Democrat staying home.

The real problem is that I am convinced it will not be Joe Biden heading the Democrat ticket in 2024.
