If we settle above 26,000 by the end of the year, I would call it a success for Marshall.

The far more interesting data is gonna be the ESPN2 viewership.

Not so sure about GSU. They're going to have to fight the fact that there's 1000 things going on in Atlanta. College football outside of the chick fil a game, HBCU classics and the SEC championship don't get a lot of interest. And this isn't a diss at all, but it's going to be hard as hell to get people to show up to see non P5 teams. GT gets ACC teams to their barn regularly and they still struggle with attendance when it's not UGA, FSU or Clemson. Should be able to get 25k but beyond that might be rough. They do not do a good enough job engaging potential fans.

You are absolutely correct. They do a horrible job of engaging potential fans. Just emails for those who have previously purchased game tickets to any sports event. There are tons of GSU Alumni and their extended family in Metro ATL. Gotta start doing some 5sec & 15sec promos on social media. They have game packages but it seems the people who already come are the only ones who know about them (through email). Donate tickets to local schools and to Veterans. Invite a local team each home game with discounted tickets for family and parking (plus discounted food & drink). Let the people know you exist. There is no reason people around Atlanta should still be saying, "I didn't know Georgia State has a football team".

We've done that for basketball now as well, it definitely seems like the strategy going forward is to shrinkflation the stadiums, which actually probably long run is the healthier way to do it. I'm all for building out a smaller attendance, but better facilities. I think it looked good on TV, but like every Marshall game, after halftime people stick around for tailgating and it does leave the stadium to have much more of a empty or feel in the second half.

Tailgating is a major component at marshall, probably other programs, but it's definitely a big deal to a lot of folk.

It's also probably to be honest, a healthier way to go about the balance between live in game attendance and still having enough eyeballs for TV viewership.

I was just talking about this game only. I don’t know how long they’ve been tarped, so maybe it’s a code thing?

That area wont even exist next year as it will be a deck but will add more SRO. I'm not even sure the seats are still there but as Banker said the railings aren't. So it's unusable this year. I think we'll end up with around 34k with the deck and SRO when it's all done.

That's good to hear. I was wondering what capacity will be once the Party Deck is completed.

Time for the million dollar q...how do they even figure out attendance with SRO sections involved? will it go up? will it go down? only the Tootsie Roll pop owl knows..

They have to buy a ticket like everyone else. You count tickets sold like always.
