The US Patent and Trademark Office ruled this week that we are the rightful owners of the "Red Wolves" name and no professional or college team can license the name.

Decision was made after a 3 yearlong battle with the Chatanooga Red Wolves of the USL. Chatanooga's argument was that since we were a college team and they were professional, then both could be licensed, but that failed.

I know a lot of Washington Commanders fans who aren't going to be happy about that. (I'm indifferent) Was probably the only name some people were willing to accept outside of Redskins.

There are, or at least there were when I kept up with Mississippi HS teams that used all the $ec logos. I know Vicksburg HS got a C&D letter from FL for using their Gator Gulfport uses GA "G". Hattiesburg used to use LSU's helmet with HHS instead of LSU and that Tiger in the middle.

Red Wolves are a real thing. Separate from say Gray Wolves. BTW Polar Bears and Grizzles are not the same.

In the case of high schools & middle schools, typically the university will sign a licensing agreement for some annual token fee like $1. They’re legally enforcing the trademark to ensure their rights, but without being jerks about it.

The Iowa logo we were sued over isn’t the one y’all are showing. It was an alternate logo that ours more closely resembled that Iowa fans called the “Crack Hawk” and hated for the most part so it was barely ever used. It was, however, trademarked, so Iowa still owned it and could file a dispute. I’ll see if I can find it on the google machine.

The eagle y'all use is much better than the Iowa eagle. I like how a poster referred to it as puzzle pieces. Very good description.

Still a good bit of difference between this and the eagle head, but the first time I saw this I did at least think, “Yeah, I can see what they’re saying.”

Our current eagle head is way better anyway. It worked out in the end.

They were a thing all over the Southern States at one point. There numbers are endangered - critical levels at the moment. Size wise they're between a coyote and a small/medium gray wolf. heads kinda look like a cross of both but I think their coloring is prettier. I've always wanted to see one in the wild.
