Rice football NIL deal
Sorry up front about the lack of links (I can only access this site on my iPad and it’s a pain to post links on the iPad).

Anyway, the Houston Business Journal has a story today about an NIL deal the Rice football team has inked with BrainTree Nutrition (braintreenutrition.com). BrainTree is the nutrition company founded by Andrew Sendejo and Scott Solomon (and maybe a third ex Rice football player)?

Maybe someone can post more details on the NIL deal because it’s behind a paywall and I can’t read that story.

I don't subscribe to HBJ but that is the link (it's paywalled).

My Google search gave the paywalled HBJ story, but also this excerpt as well:

Quote:The deal is a revenue-sharing model in which players will earn money through generating sales of BrainTree's products via a unique code or link that they share, Sendejo said. The deal could be worth upward of $500,000 depending on how much the team is able to sell, he added.

The "Our Story" section of the company's website (https://www.braintreenutrition.com/pages/our-story) says that Scott and Andrew are the founders, but that Scott's parents and twin brother are important contributors, as well:

Quote:Through careful review of the available research and consultation with Scott’s family of physicians, ingredients to promote brain health were identified. Contributors include Scott’s mother, a Geriatric Neurologist specializing in dementia care; his dad, a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiologist with a special interest in preventive health care; and Scott’s twin brother, also an Anesthesiologist committed to maintaining a healthy lifestyle for brain health. A family history of Alzheimer’s Disease has importantly contributed to the family’s motivation to identify measures to preserve optimal brain function.

Another search (with a different results time interval) said former rice football player Jake Hicks is also one of BrainTree's founders.

Revenue share through an affiliate links is not a sophisticated or particularly exclusive arrangement. I would hope the actual deal is that they slipped some cash to the athletics department for the opportunity to make that press release and put the affiliate program directly in front of the players. I could go to Amazon or Walmart today and get myself similar affiliate links to put on my own profiles, and I'm nobody.

I’ll order some of their products through a players link if someone points them out.

Goodness knows reading through some Parliament threads has killed some of my brain cells and I could use a boost in that area. Although to be fair, being 59 1/2 probably doesn’t help.
