I think college soccer would get a lot more popular if the tournament was in the spring competing with baseball as opposed to the fall trying to compete with football.
Below is a copy of the letter that the women's coaches sent in support of the men moving to the 21st Century Model. They reference that women coaches support a longer season to enable more rest, but that they feel the needs of women student athletes are not the same.
Some reasons would be -
Men (both recruiting and professional opportunities) are more impacted by the professional international professional calendar. Meanwhile, pro soccer in the US is on a spring-fall schedule that more closely aligns with only playing womens college soccer in the fall.
You can also find other objections in source material there - such as an increase in resources needed to support year round soccer, thus negatively impacting programs with limited resources. Concerns also linger about providing a true college experience and giving athletes time to be a student.
But just let the women do what they do and let the men do what we need to do. Simple..
Don't need the women to womensplain us. We can take care of ourselves.

Uh, I don't think it's women saying the men can't do it. Their letter explicitly supports what the Men's soccer side was wanting, just for mens soccer only and not Women's. The fact that it's held up might be more due to institutions being hesitant to have an asymmetric system for a myriad of reasons (potential Title IX issues, concerns with alignment in the administration, more difficult budgeting, unbalanced scheduling issues, etc).
