RE: JMU fans
Houston seemed to have a hunger and modesty early on in his coaching career at JMU. By 2018, that fire had faded and he always knew best. He trotted some truly terrible coaching jobs out there but had the talent to be decent. He started to get testy with the local press and tarnished his good guy image. Finally, the way he left was not only shameful to his players/JMU, but also to UNCC/ECU.
I thought he would do ok at ECU, but he has kept his weakest assistants around and run off those that challenged him. He had a huge opinion of himself towards the end of his time at JMU, and it seems to have gotten the worst of him

RE: JMU fans
Houston was an excellent coach at JMU. 37-6 with a national title and a runner-up finish during his 3 years. That included a curb stomping of ECU 34-14 in which the Pirates were manhandled by a FCS team.
ECU was a dumpster fire when he was hired. Scottie Montgomery’s negative impact wasn’t just in the 3 years he was there, but it carried over after he left a crappy roster. I’d be pretty happy with ECU’s 8-5 record last year considering the program bottomed out with 6 straight losing seasons and an exodus of your fanbase until Houston turned it around.
