I don't know the nature behind your home game requirements etc..., but here's the bylaw below. The bylaw was created in 2004, and last revised in 2017. Could have also been some type of negotiation(s) between the schools to keep it neutral as well.

NCAA bylaw below.

20.10.9.2 Football Scheduling Requirements. [FBS] The institution shall schedule and play at least 60 percent of its football games against members of the Football Bowl Subdivision. The institution shall schedule and play at least five regular-season home games against Football Bowl Subdivision opponents. For purposes of satisfying the home games requirement, a contest shall be considered a home contest if it is played in the stadium in which an institution conducts at least 50 percent of its home contests. In addition, an institution may use one home contest against a Football Bowl Subdivision member conducted at a neutral site to satisfy the home games requirement.

The field in Titians stadium had WKU same home field markings and in the contract it was a Western home with an agreement for split tickets. It was about 50/50 between Western and uk fans. Maybe 55/45 Western since the Western student section was fuller than uk's.

Hell it might have been Western that did not count it......we are kind of stupid, like that when it comes to attendance. Western uses scanned tickets where most schools just make up a number. Do it in basketball also...sold out 7300 before the season started and average attendance for that season was 6100

Here's example how schools count "attendance" I wont post everyone but this is the schools on the worse end that can't seem to count correctly

Here's the other end of schools that us actual scanned tickets as "attendance"

RE: Conference USA Week Two Attendance
Are we gonna have the "how tickets are counted discussion" every week/month/year for all eternity? The discussion is played out. Folks have stated their thoughts. We all understand it. Let's move on.

Our AD just posted his most recent Ask the AD podcast yesterday. He was asked for his thoughts on attendance. He said attendance wasn't the biggest factor to him. He was most concerned with revenue. In that scenario, it matters little how the attendance is counted, what mattered was money.

Your AD is talking about two different things....

if he wasn't worried about "attendance" then you would think the school wouldn't need to just pull a number out of the air. They would be honest about it and go by the definition. But hell that doesn't seem to be important, any more....just make up your own meaning of a word.

Attendance and revenue are two different things and the last time I checked there wasn't a "revenue" listed in box scores. Attendance is. Just like there's a weekly thread on this board called Attendance.

You care to give us all the definition you want us to go by? It's obvious you dont want to use the one in Webster list or the concept of the word "attendance". You would rather just change it to something without a meaning....

seems like that is the world we are living in today. When we dont like what it actually means just change. Not only change it but make sure no one ever points out what the word actually meant or someone will get their feelings hurt. Personally that seems like a "you" problem. Myself I don't allow others to dictate to me or change the meaning just because it hurts their feelings.

Wow. Where did I say what my preference was for counting attendance? Yet you say my preference is "obvious". You sure projected a lot into what I said and none of it is true. I'm pretty sure attendance is important to our AD, he never said it wasn't important, but he is more concerned with the revenue generated by home games. That was one point I was making.

My other point is that there are essentially 2 schools of thought when reporting attendance:

1. Butts in seats
2. Tickets sold

I don't care which definition is used, both are accepted by the media, NCAA and others. I didn't make either of these up and I'm not proposing a third version of attendance, even though it may be "obvious" to you that I am making up definitions.

We can talk about these 2 versions of attendance till the cows come home (we already have) but the discussion is played out. Lastly, I don't think most people on here have a clue about how their school reports out attendance. People think they know, but most don't.

One more thing. I like the attendance thread. I love seeing the numbers. But I'm tired of reading about what the numbers mean and rehashing things over and over. We get it, no need to beat a dead horse. Seems like that is the world we are living in today. People complain about things they can't control, they have opinions that they think are correct and they feel compelled to state their opinion over and over while knowing their complaining won't change anything.

Navy is the only school that uses scanned tickets for announced attendance, which means we all do creative accounting with the numbers to some degree. WKU appears to have added a phantom 5% on top of the scanned number. So yes, like everyone else Western ... just make up a number, a little number but a number non the less. Or am I misreading the data?
