App state at Tarholes game thread
When you give up 238 to a running back and don’t get the key stops when you really need them you’re unlikely to be successful. Whale of a game. Proud of App.

Only got to see the beginning of this one but tracked the score. Tough loss Apps. Would have been a great one to have but you should feel great about your team!

Mountaineers looked every bit the equal of the #17 team in the country. Wish you guys would have gotten that flag. As JMU fans will attest, ACC refs don't do visitors any favors.

The missed FG hurt. That BS holding call that negated the Noel run into the RedZone hurt. The decision to not put the ball in Noel's hand during 2nd OT hurt. The INT that lead to UNC FG hurt.

Lots of things led to the L. Lack of talent isn't one of those things

Disagree, their OL was better than our DL and was the difference in the game. Drake Maye made a couple plays that most other QBs just wouldn't make. We needed to have the ball last in regular season to win and it didn't work out our way. We still stood toe to toe with a P5 top 20 team at their place with a chance to win. App earned some more respect today.
Coaches had them ready to play. Tackling had improved from last week and our OL gave our offense the chance to shine. We are headed in the right direction.

Good teams improve as the season progresses. Defense played better, but angles taken on their big plays will be easy to review on film.

Offense is ahead of schedule, WRs are very strong and RBs are solid. QB question has been answered.

It appears that App improved a great deal from game one to game two. It also appears App has found their QB going forward and the team has played a lot of players and showed some pretty talented depth. I wasn't sure what to expect from this team this year but I'm a lot more positive on this season today than I was a week ago. The next 2 games against ECU and Wyoming will tell a lot before the Sunbelt grind begins. I really appreciated the effort of the players and our little section of the stadium made as much noise as possible.

that thought process is the same as 90% of the typical college football fans. they don't pay attention to anything outside of the P5's so to them we are just nobodies along for the ride. That is why we will never have a "fair" shot at the CFP. They'll give us our breadcrumbs and charity but will never give us a real shot.

I will defer to you since you're a coach, but I'm of the opinion that App minimized damage by going after Maye. They may have given up 238 rushing yards but they were still in a situation where a score and conversion wins the game. So App picked the right poison to be in a position to win, in my opinion (which may not be worth much).

I didn't see it mentioned but UNC was very, very close to having their XP blocked in overtime too. Looks like the end for App missed it by inches as he got into the backfield.

Last play of the game, not a good angle but it sure looks like the UNC DB either just ran over the App receiver or had a hold of his arm and caused him to lose his balance when he tried to get his hands up. The way the receiver reacts it looks like he knew contact was made.

DPI is probably the second-most inconsistently called penalty in football other than roughing the passer. It needs to be more clearly defined in the rules and become reviewable.

My real issue is that there was the exact same scenario in the 1st quarter that was called DPI against app. If they hadn’t called that then I would be fine with no call
