Multiple industry sources tell Extra Points that the University of West Georgia is seeking to reclassify to D-I and join the ASUN and UAC. The Georgia Board of Regents will consider the request in a meeting this Friday.

Here we go. Lets go West Georgia. I've been wanting to see this move for years. Never thought they would move before VSU though. Now come on Valdosta St!!! I'm a little more apprehensive about VSU moving up, but still I remain hopeful.
Personally I believe UWG, UWF & VSU (not sure about UWA) all plan on moving to D1. This is why I believe the Gulf South Conference was willing to help Conference Carolinas bring back Football while losing Shorter to the same conference. Most of the football members were likely leaving anyway.

I believe Valdosta will follow West Georgia for the Peach Basket... then because of Valdosta being the only rival West Florida has left, they come next...

From D1.ticker:

West Georgia (DII) is seeking to reclassify to DI and the Atlantic Sun starting with the 2024-25 season, Extra Points publisher Matt Brown reports. Per Brown, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents is scheduled to meet tomorrow to “review a request from the University of West Georgia to enter into a new agreement regarding its athletic conference affiliation and the expansion of its athletics program offerings.” While UWG will not be immediately eligible for NCAA postseason events, ASUN Commissioner Jeff Bacon tells Brown the Wolves will be immediately eligible for ASUN tournaments, consistent with a league policy established under former Commissioner Ted Gumbart. UWG currently sponsors 14 sports and would need to expand its portfolio as part of the reclassification process, and Brown is told that even if the USG Board of Regents does not allow UWG to reclassify, the school still intends to bring back men’s indoor and outdoor track and may add additional women’s sports. Also from Brown: “Sources familiar with the ASUN’s thinking have told me that the conference does not have immediate plans to expand further, although industry sources outside of the ASUN have told me that the league has had, with varying degrees of formality and seriousness, conversations with multiple other DII programs, including football and non-football playing institutions.”

Intercolligiate Athletics subcommittee received the UWG request and briefing on the move. It reported out to the full BOR that it should be approved. BOR now in executive session.[/size]

Thanks it was long over due, but our pice of crap baseball stadium still looks better then Georgia States. lol

Barely lol.... How many times KSU represented the conference in postseason play and won in postseason play? How many ASUN championships KSU got? How many ASUN championships UNA got? How many FCS playoff runs did UNA have? Have UNA ever been to the FCS playoffs? These are the questions the people need to know. lol
