Chicago Mayor Sues Automakers Over Rampant Theft
Quote:The City of Chicago is suing two major automakers amid a growing car theft crisis.

Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson's office announced that the city filed the lawsuit against automakers Kia and Hyundai, alleging that both companies have failed to include "industry-standard engine immobilizers" in several models of vehicles, which resulted in a "steep rise" in crime.

"The impact of car theft on Chicago residents can be deeply destabilizing, particularly for low- to middle-income workers who have fewer options for getting to work and taking care of their families," Johnson said. "The failure of Kia and Hyundai to install basic auto-theft prevention technology in these models is sheer negligence, and as a result, a citywide and nationwide crime spree around automobile theft has been unfolding right before our eyes."

Just an FYI, KIA released a software update a while ago that prevents the kind of theft that was running amok.

My daughter has a KIA and they sent her a notice. They do the update for free, but you have to take it in. And they put small red stickers on your windows which tell the would-be thief the car has been updated.

RE: Chicago Mayor Sues Automakers Over Rampant Theft
This is likely just the mayor trying to look like he accomplished something. Both automakers were ALREADY doing this, because they had to. Insurance carriers were dropping these vehicles from comprehensive coverage because they were too easily stolen. Without that coverage, lienholders wouldnt offer a loan on the vehicle.

So now that both of them have already updated their new models, and are going back and updating the older models, the mayor will be claiming during the next election that his lawsuit caused the manufacturers to take corrective action.

Chicago TV News Crew Robbed While Reporting on Rampant Crime Wave

Quote:While Chicago politicians make excuses for the armed thugs terrorizing the city, at least 30 people were robbed or carjacked during a 12-hour crime spree that started Sunday afternoon and ended Monday morning.

The crime is so bad that the armed thieves even hit a TV news crew this morning who were reporting on the skyrocketing crime in that great midwestern city. According to CWB Chicago:

“The newspeople were in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee early Monday when three or four masked men robbed them, according to preliminary information from the scene. An officer said the robbers were Black males wearing ski masks—one with a rifle, the others with handguns.

“Without identifying the victims as a news crew, a Chicago police spokesperson confirmed that a 28-year-old man and a 42-year-old man were outside in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee when a black SUV and a gray sedan pulled up around 4:53 a.m.

The mayor is a commie, so nothing will be done to change things. They love the chaos.
