RE: Volleyball schedule
Chicago State should be able to beat Evansville again in the next meeting.

Also, West Virginia isn’t a strong team, so I would not be surprised to see the Cougars beat them. Any P5 win would look good to the NVIC committee, but they will also know the strength of WVU.

Computer rankings have Chicago State at 150, which is not encouraging for a post season birth at all, IMO.

https://masseyratings.com/cvol/ncaa-d1/ratings

WVU is in the 160’s. Evansville is 200. Florida State, which is the best chance left for a boost for CSU is at 49. Also coming up are road games at 74 UTEP and 85 NMSU.

RE: Volleyball schedule
Looking at the Massey Ratings for D1 Volleyball, they still have Chicago State listed as a WAC school. And Chicago State is ahead of a vast majority of the WAC. A team like Texas Arlington might be 11-4 and look pretty good on paper, but they rate below CSU. One of the primary WAC power programs, UTRGV isn’t having a great year, but also rank below the Cougars.

Nice to see Chicago State doing well on their own and NOT helping boost the WAC teams rankings at all. You’ve got teams like Tarleton that don’t even appear to be trying at many of their sports, including VB. Tarleton is among the lowest of all D1 schools in SOS.

All D1- https://masseyratings.com/cvol/ncaa-d1/ratio

West Virginia has lost to Davidson, Loyola, Colgate, and Old Dominion. I would say we have at least a fighting chance.

Good showing versus West Virginia, but couldn’t pull it out. At least a 3-2 loss shows it was close.

All right! Dominant three-set win over an OVC team. Western Illinos goes down 3-0.

RE: Volleyball schedule
RPI of remaining schedule for Chicago State. CSU RPI is 142

Western Illinois -297
Evansville -180
New Mexico State -81
UTEP -60
FLorida State -47

By the rankings, without any upsets, the Cougars could finish out 2-3, plus 2 wins over Hartford which won’t count for the RPI I don’t believe.

We ought to schedule Arkansas-Pine Bluff. They are D1, but they are awful. 2-15 at the moment.

RE: Volleyball schedule
Chicago State is looking pretty good tonight. I know Western Illinois isn’t good at all, but the Cougars look damn good. Whitney Barnes, the San Jose State transfer, is having an amazing game.

If the Cougars keep this up going forward, Chicago had a decent shot against both New Mexico State and UTEP on that road trip. Those teams have high RPI’s and that would go a long way to a potential NVBI Tournament birth.

Even though Chicago State has lost to a couple of poor teams, with only 5 losses right now, a lot of their post season potential is still in their own hands.

And it can’t be said enough, the Chicago State home production and announcing is absolutely top notch. I’d hold it up against any school anywhere.

RE: Volleyball schedule
Primary games remaining with most current RPI,

Evansville (8-12) -190
UTEP (15-6) -61
New Mexico State (13-8) -70. 2 of the losses are to #16 WKU
Florida State (13-7) -32

Chicago State (10-5) is currently 142 out of 344 D1 squads.

Really a dominant performance. I hope the selection committee was watching it. Whitney Barnes was spectacular.

RE: Volleyball schedule
If the OVC were considering Chicago State right now, they’d see the Cougars are 3-0 versus their #2 team Southeast Missouri and #3 team Western Illinois. All were 3-0 sweeps.

Not a huge deal, but does place the Cougars in a good light competitively. They wouldn’t be dragging the bottom of the standings in every sport, that’s for sure.

RE: Volleyball schedule
Nice win again against Evansville. Severino was really dominant in the middle. Other than a slow start, not much to complain about. Three wins in a row. Tough match coming up with NM State. They are 14-9, but they have lost three of their last four.

RE: Volleyball schedule
NMSU fell in the RPI from 70 to 92, and UTEP has also fallen from 60 to 68th. Very good opportunities to boost the Cougars season. Florida State sits at 33.

The Cougars are 138, but haven’t had a lot of chances at higher rated teams for a while. Mostly at the beginning of the season.

Evansville is 220
Northern Illinois is 271
Western Illinois is 281

So the bad news is, 7 of the 11 wins are against pretty bad teams. The 3 shots at higher level teams are really the make or break point of the season.

NMSU played well and beat Chicago fairly easily. There were times CSU looked OK, but poor hitting doomed them. I’m still hoping for a rebound versus UTEP, but play will have to improve as they are better than the Aggies.

RE: Volleyball schedule
UTEP swept CSU in 3. UTEP didn’t play especially well, but neither did Chicago. All 3 sets were pretty close, but Chicago didnt have enough to take any of them. With losses at NMSU and UTEP, I’d rule out a possibility of making the NVIT.

Those were some tough losses. I thought they’d have to win them both to potentially get an invite to the NVIT— but yeah, not looking plausible now.

RE: Volleyball schedule
Totally dominant win over Hartford. Granted that they are D3, but you still have to put them away. We really looked sharp.
