At 24, both are in along with UNC, Miami and FSU. Let's go big and say ND, and then UVA, Kansas. Could easily be GT and Louisville. Or maybe even ND, Kansas and Louisville and go all in on basketball (which could mean Duke too).

I think if the move is to 20 you will see North Carolina, Clemson and Florida State to the SEC and the 4th will be a bit of a surprise, Duke.

If the push is then to 24 for defensive reasons Miami and Georgia Tech come into play. If North Carolina and Duke do head to the SEC Virginia may want in as well. Virginia Tech would cement that deal since the Big 10 likely won't take them.

That's your Magnificent 7 minus N.C. State and Plus Duke and Georgia Tech.

If the Goal of Sankey is to keep regional identity, then a move like that would work, and force the Big 10 to continue expanding out West. They are at 18 already. If they picked up Pittsburgh, Notre Dame, California and Stanford along with Colorado and Kansas they meet their requirements and hit 24 as well and we don't have to stomach them in our region.

BTW: Pastides, president at South Carolina in 2011, was wanting to nominate Clemson for membership. That's their donation game. I noticed here the one interviewed was Beamer, a man who has no input over the situation. At the state level South Carolina will do what is best for Clemson. They both count on the same legislators for appropriations.

I can’t see the B1G getting completely shut out of any quality ACC pieces.

At minimum I see Miami and Georgia Tech headed to the B1G as GT just doesn’t bring in enough ratings or relevance. It seems the SEC might not be too fond of Miami, plus they just got AAU accreditation so the B1G is probably salivating.

JR, I think a bidding war for UNC could take place—hopefully adding Duke is enough. I keep getting 1990’s vibes from FSU; would they spur another SEC invitation and join the B1G?

Next few weeks should be fun.

What would be fun is for the SEC to take Miami, Clemson, and North Carolina along with say Virginia and see what the Big 10 wanted.

And I disagree with you about the Big 10 getting shut out. Way too many people give them too much credit. They've lost a lot of sauce in the last 20 years. ESPN has the SEC and ACC that's where it will start.

Can you imagine the angst in Tallahassee if the SEC took Miami, Clemson, UNC and Virginia? They'd know the Big 10 might not have interest at that point.

Big Ten has some great TV viewers. The on field talent to win the CFP? Not so much.

If FSU is leading this great escape from the ACC, then they’ve already secured a landing spot and are just going through the process of exiting and paying to leave with their TV rights. I can’t see fsu paying tons of money to leave and wind up in the Big 12.

Clemson is leading this charge. Clemson and North Carolina's coaches allegedly visited the SEC office 3 days after the OU/UT announcement. If they are leading the charge out there's not only smoke but fire. Miami? It's part of the state the SEC doesn't reach very well. I could see that. But they are more culturally suited to the Big 10. We'll find out likely by the middle of October. I still think it's FSU because with UF that's 77% of the Florida college football viewers.

Larry Williams from Tiger Illustrated has said that something is likely to happen in October as it relates to Clemson, the ACC, and the GOR. The folks at Tiger Illustrated are very much in the know when it comes to Clemson sports and they don't print/publish anything that hasn't been vetted for accuracy. If Tiger Illustrated says anything about Clemson sports, you can pretty much count on it being correct.

RE: If FSU Departs the End of Realignment Will Be Upon US. How Does the SEC Finish?
Flugar gave an update in his holy smokes theatre of realignment.
1. ESPN has “entered the foyer” —their first appearance…not close to the stage (where action takes place).
2. SEC is getting aggressive—Sankey still in a luxury box right next to FSU BOT’s box.
3. Starting to believe if FSU exits before, or at all, Notre Dame leaves the ACC, then very clear path for FSU/Clem/UNC/UVA to SEC. If ND bolts first, then there should be a pathway for UNC and others to the B1G.

At 20 we go one of two ways:

Clemson, Florida State, North Carolina and Virginia/Duke

or we go all star hoops:

Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, Virginia.

If it is the former we may see more additions to 24 which cover most of the Magnificent 7.

If it is the latter ESPN is trying to build a better football conference around Notre Dame in the ACC and needed to clean out the old blood stumps who want to keep the ACC focused on hoops.

We'll see which is which likely by next Summer I think.

All the poppycock has UNC, UVA, FSU and Clemson as the likely four. If there is further expansion, I would want to see Notre Dame and then a rivalry renewed like Kansas or Duke.

I think we could pick up the Irish as a partial, but they won't join unless a new system forces it. Then their pick would be interesting. We have the states they want to play in but the Big 10 plays similar sports and would involve less travel. I'm not hot for UVa, FSU and UNC are the musts simply to have the dominant add rate in Florida and pick up the top school in North Carolina. I'm good with Va Tech from Virginia. The Irish are worth the most, but even as a partial they add to the pot for all of us. Kansas is solid too.

Michigan throwing out lots or warnings to the B1G today. Any actual chance they would leave and could they actually fit and play nice in the SEC?

The Irish are worth the most, but even as a partial they add to the pot for all of us. Kansas is solid too.

Michigan throwing out lots or warnings to the B1G today. Any actual chance they would leave and could they actually fit and play nice in the SEC?

Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State would just take a number when it comes to cooperation. Texas, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia, L.S.U., Florida, Auburn, Tennessee, would all say wait your turn.

RE: If FSU Departs the End of Realignment Will Be Upon US. How Does the SEC Finish?
I get why the SEC wants UVA, and they seem to be strong in non-football sports (basketball, baseball), so there is a good reason to bring them on athletically besides academically and marketwise in a new state. For my own rooting interests, I think I would prefer VT or possibly Miami, but I get it.

If it is Clemson/FSU + UNC/UVA, then I would still wonder about Miami/ND. Finish it off with Duke/Kansas.

That would be the most powerful move to be made, but nobody could be sure of Notre Dame, still the 7 besides them would be enough to make #8 acceptable whether N.C. State, Va Tech, Georgia Tech, or Louisville.

I would upgrade Miami to Michigan and call that the most powerful move that can be played. Probably won’t happen as all the chatter seems to have halted since Friday’s suspension of Michigan HC for the remainder of the regular season (3 games).

The whole idea of Michigan being unhappy recently is significant to me because it seems several Big Ten schools have had beefs in the last few years although all for somewhat different reasons. I don't expect Michigan to jump ship over something like this, but it's interesting that several schools have had vocal complaints the last 3 or 4 years. You usually don't even see that in less profitable leagues.

It does make me wonder about their united front although some of that could be the poor leadership of Kevin Warren.

Nonetheless, I think the Western expansion of that league has not fully come home to roost yet. There are obvious TV advantages in making those moves, and money soothes a lot of ails, but I have to wonder whether adding PAC teams was more about positive growth or desperate acquisition in response to the instability caused by Texas and Oklahoma moving to the SEC.

Time will tell, but I'm not convinced all the powers in that league are happy with the trajectory.

Here's the deal. If the Big 10 can't get into the Southeast for recruiting then having the Los Angeles market, Oregon and Washington aren't going to do it for their leaders. If the SEC and ESPN keep Michigan and Ohio State out of a regular stop in the Southeast they will come knocking on our door. The stronger and more cohesive the southern schools in an all Southern Conference with brands that play other brands each week, the less potent the Big 10 will look, and their top brands will find it easier to join than to compete.

Face it, an all Southern SEC Championship series would be more compelling than the CFP. With Texas and Oklahoma, and should we add FSU, Miami and Clemson all but 2 championships in the last 25 years will belong to schools who play in the SEC.
