Memphis to the PAC is beyond dumb. They don't fit the culture and would be way better served trying to get into a poached ACC. They would be a basketball centric school in a conference where nobody really cares about basketball. SMU, Tulane, and Rice fit the academic profile so you start there. Add in the regional fits of UNLV and Nevada and then stop to reevaluate. If Cal and Stanford are all in, you vet out Boise and Fresno. They are great athletic fits with solid fan bases but might be tough for the elitist to swallow.

First, there is no PAC culture left.

Secondly....SMU, Tulane, and Rice have very few fans and ratings. No offense, just small private schools.

So yes, if you care about academics sure invite them.

If you care about people actually caring about your conference, having people at your games, and people actually tuning in for you games than you need to take the best athletic programs.

This is where the PAC has screwed up for a very long time and it has cost them. ACC about to do the same. They make they decisions based on academics and things that don't matter. That's how you end up with Wake Forrest, Vandy, Northwestern in your conferences. Teams that don't bring little tv value.

The SEC and now Big 12....take the best athletic programs. Those conferences live.....the academic conferences die.

But sure take Rice and either die OR no one cares about your conference.

I dont think the available dollars are going to make it viable to go much past 10.

Standford
Cal
Oregon St
Wash St
SDSU
Air Force
SMU
Rice
Boise
Tulsa (acadmics)/Fresno (on field performance)/Colorado St, or whoever. Id also add Gonzaga as a non-football addition.

I suspect that package will net you around 10 million per team----and it probably goes down as you add more. If the 2011 AAC is worth 7 million each, and last weeks Pac12 was worth roughly 20-25 million each---then the nPac12 probably has a value that is somewhere between those two values (likely much closer to the AAC value than last weeks Pac10 valuation). I think 10 million each is a pretty reasonable guess. At 10 million each, ESPN can buy half of it for less than they could add two more to the Big12---and they end of access to 10 teams of western inventory. Fox might be interested in the other half at 50---or maybe you have to do a deal with Apple, Amazon, Paramont etc. Maybe ESPN takes a little more than half---but I think a grouping like that can absolutely cobble something together that pays more than the MW and AAC.

What is the Pac-4 culture? Honest question. Academics? I see two schools that are sort of alike and two other schools *radically different* from the first two schools. Oregon State ranked 151 in the US News ranking and Washington State ranked 212

Note the cite allowing closed door meeting: litigation.

California Code, Education Code - EDC § 92032
