I agree that he could carve out a spot as a backup, especially if he continues to showcase his leadership traits in the behind the scenes work he does, but the cards are stacked against him.

Not specific to Des but just in the market generally seeing teams win with guys like Flacco, Minshew, Browning etc. that were scrap heap guys tells me that if you don't think a QB is a first round franchise QB taking one in the middle rounds doesn't seem to make sense. A third round pick position player can be much more significant contributor than drafting your journeyman QB like Des in the 3rd round. Look how much Puka has helped LA; I'd much rather take a chance on a guy like that. Looking at the QB stats essentially every high level starter besides Dak and Cousins were first round picks. None have been drafted in the last 5 years which probably speaks to QB inflation.

Oh, I agree...but that also speaks further to teams not wanting to spend any more money than they have to on a backup QB, because you're not making the playoffs with one anyways. Also, Gardner Minshew was a 6th round pick. I'd be mildly surprised if Des gets a second contract at this point from anyone but Atlanta.

See I'd actually think Atlanta is the least likely team to give him his next contract; I just feel like these bounce around guys aren't normally resigned. And I think because of Des' character and size he'll get backup opportunities. Do I think he'll ever have a run of success? Not really but no one would have bet on Minshew, Tyrod, etc so you never know.

Starting experience is a plus in the NFL and in his first year, he had some ups and downs. Look at some of the backup QBs out there. Many have very little playing time under their belt, so Des has that going for him, plus he had some success and is also a good runner. Look who the Browns put out there at QB on Sunday. Des is light years ahead of him and quite a few QBs out there, so he can make money holding the clipboard for at least one more contract.

Pace Jr just a great story. Ugh on Ridder, thought he might be able to shine there with some added experience.

Yeah that ranking is a problem for Ridder. I fully expect the Falcons to be very involved in the market for a new QB whether it's the draft or free agency.

Tough to say what happens from here for Des with all the injuries to QBs. I don't think any team will plan on having Des as their #1 QB going into a season as things stand now. But it's not far-fetched to think he's got a solid chance to be pressed into service sometime, somewhere. From there it will depend upon how well he develops from this experience.

RE: Bearcats in the NFL (or any pro football league) 2023
Worth noting, Jason Kelce is now almost a lock as a first team HOFer. He is now 3rd all time in 1st team All Pro nods as a center with 6 and has 8 pro bowls as well over a 12 year career.

Sauce Gardner also got his 2nd consecutive All Pro nod to start his career.

In two season he has:
DROY
2x All Pro 1st Team
2x Pro Bowl

Ridiculous start for him

Best UC player in NFL history in my opinion, outstanding career and very proud rep of UC. Last year's Kelce Bowl was the most excited I've ever been for an NFL game and hard to imagine I'll ever get that into another one

With all of the bread crumbs out there, I wouldn't be surprised if Travis retired this year too. Going to the HOF together with your brother would be wild.

Additionally, I think both will end up with fairly lucrative offers for TV after this, Jason more on the color commentary/analysis side and Travis on the studio side.

After Jason appeared on a Thursday Night Football broadcast during an off week earlier this year this seemed to be inevitable. Who wouldn't want to bail at 36 if it were an option, I'm jealous as hell.

Bolded, at a minimum I suspect. He proved pretty versatile and likeable hosting SNL last year and there may be a larger role for him in network TV over and above the Sunday afternoon gig in a NYC studio.

I'm very proud of both brothers for their incredible careers and their ongoing commitment to our University of Cincinnati.

I believe according to twitter/X it's official that Jason kelce is retiring. However now i'm seeing things that indicate he hasn't officially decided.

He has not said so on his podcast. But he sure looks run down / depressed from the way the season ended.

My guess is they would announce together and he doesn't want that taken away from him. Good on him for going on his own terms instead of having the dumb media-types ruin an exceptionally important moment for him like they normally do.

If you have the Athletic, this Oral history of the Kelce Brothers at UC is one of the best things I've ever read.

Who had the more impressive game?

A) Travis Kelce with 2 TD receptions.

B) Jason Kelce drinking shots out of a bowling ball at a Bills tailgate, then going shirtless in the Taylor Swift luxury box whilke drinking multiple cans of what appeared to be Busch Light.

I go with Jason, except, as my wife says, he is worth ten of millions of dollars and he drinks crappy Busch Light (or Busch lattes, as they are called in Maria Stein, Ohio)?
