If this were another thread, one might bring up the fact that there was a prominent player on that team who was not on the floor during that particular play.

You mean the point guard who lead us to 4 straight ncaa tourneys ?

A lot of the anti Pastner narrative is deserved; but saying Joe Jackson didn't develop, to support it, does a huge disservice to him. He improved as a point guard every single season, including his last season, when he unfortunately lost his touch from outside. His junior season is one of the all time great seasons for a Memphis point guard.

Did he lose his touch or did bringing Dixon in hurt him? And fwiw I was all for bringing Dixon in. That 4 kings season was Pastners worst coaching job. That team had final 4 talent and finished 5th in the AAC. Got smoked by UConn at home and embarrassed by Virginia in round of 32.

My Joe comment was aimed more at commenters who still discuss him all the time. I agree with the 2 comments above. Joe definitely improved every season (I hate that we lost Coach Damon before his senior year). The chemistry on that team was a nightmare (maybe not personally, but certainly on the court). The front court of Austin and Shaq alone was pretty awesome. A bench with Dixon, Nick King, and Kuran. That was one of the most disappointing seasons to watch as a fan.

From my memory, JJ wasn't comfortable at all; guiding shots when he was open, and his confidence was shot.
I would normally agree with you, but that team needed Black, or it needed a healthy Pellom. He didn't need to contribute much offensively, but not being mobile really hurt us up front. The UConn game and the Houston game before it were a shock.
