When was that?

When I was the “General student manager of vending and concessions” in 89-91 we had hawkers in the stands. However, selling beer at games was not a thing at that ancient time. We set up for, trained and assisted various non-profit groups to come in and sell. Primarily local school athletic booster clubs, on-campus organizations, churches etc. I have lots of cringe-worthy and funny stories from those days working with the volunteers. Some of you might remember being able to use punches at the football stadium concessions stands by Godwin to buy nasty hot dogs, pizza and such. We managed that too. We also worked all the towny country concerts…04-cheers I saw and learned a lot during that time. Other than the more than double minimum wage pay, we got unlimited punches at any JMU dining facility. You wanted to be my friend on Friday night trips to Dukes! We would pile all the food up and my punch would pay for it… all I was good for in those days.

I remember them coming through multiple times during the game before the stadium was expanded. Prior to expansion I seem to recall that the major concessions were located to one side of the end zone seating. I remember that sometimes it was hard to see due to all the cooking smoke from the grills/fryers there!! I would guess that when the stadium was expanded and the new concessions areas were considerably larger than pre-expansion they felt there was no need to send people through the stands. Would be nice to start it up again for basic kinda stuff. Manpower issue maybe.

Sitting in the middle of the “M” I recall looking at the “smoke wagons” in the endzone, but I don’t recall anybody coming up into our area selling concessions. Probably a sign of my old age! 04-cheers

I want the LED lights for any night games. And some different arrangement for the pregame fireworks would be cool. Also, they could rent a portable videoboard for the student entrance!

Saw this on Facebook yesterday. Looks like JMU may be bringing back vendors delivering some food & drinks to our seats for this season. (Eats2Seats)

When was that?

When the new Bridgeforth opened, it was a thing. We were in the 400 section at that time and they would go up and down the steps selling.

I recall items sold, but I don't think beer was ever sold that way at least that I saw.

Okay, thanks. Perhaps that was a courtesy effort for those folks sitting in the 400 level. Don’t recall it being done in the 100-200 levels.

I remember it being done post renovation. Usually kids with big red backpacks with drinks, and was done by student groups like the the ROTC/Rangers or APA Student chapter for fundraising.
