Quote: It’s time for the FBI to be started over from scratch. Read our plan for Congress to do just that: https://t.co/ZDUup34uXQ

— Heritage Foundation (@Heritage) July 10, 2023

Quote:The FBI’s chilling record of politicized abuses and the executive branch’s continuing misuse of federal intelligence authorities to target the exercise of free speech and other constitutional rights of Americans gives Congress clear and compelling grounds for enacting forceful reforms, starting with the FBI.

In fact, the time is ripe for Congress to consider a complete reconstruction of the FBI, defining the scope of its jurisdiction, refocusing its mission on traditional law enforcement, and putting it under effective control. Short of that comprehensive reform, Congress must, at the very least, put in place the minimum set of proposed reforms outlined in this paper, and reauthorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act’s Section 702 offers a perfect vehicle for doing so.

In the years since 9/11, the Bureau has expanded the scope and use of its own intelligence-gathering powers in dangerous ways, directing them increasingly at political movements that threaten the Washington establishment and at the exercise of constitutionally protected rights by ordinary Americans.

The report offers nearly a dozen elements to "reconstruct" the FBI, including by "limiting the tools of investigation used by the Bureau and prohibit efforts to suppress free speech, religious liberty, and other constitutional rights" and "shifting headcount and resources from Washington to the field offices and consider moving the Bureau’s headquarters out of the national capital area."

Quote: Many Americans have lost count of the numerous FBI scandals uncovered so far.

Our committee has not.

We have critical questions prepared for @DirectorWray on Wednesday. https://t.co/7Ey0dOFZd5

Unfortunately it won't pass the Senate. A good start would be placing someone at the head of the FBI who is reform minded and not corrupt. If you get a republican house/senate and presidency maybe there is a chance to pretty much scrap the whole thing and build it again from the ground up.

At a bare minimum the FIB needs to be revamped starting at the top. It’s been a corrupted alphabet suit agency since the days of J.Edgar.

The entire Exec/upper mgt needs to be sent back to the private sector and the whole seventh floor needs to vacated, fumigated then nailed shut. All those members up there can be parceled out to posts in Anchorage, Damariscotta, Cleveland, Marva, maybe international falls etc.

They SURE AS SCHIT don’t need/deserve a shiny new billion dollar tower to their clear incompetence.

Where’s the pipe bomber Club Fed? Who’s blow was it in the residential wing?!?

How about solve something instead of chasing elderly people around on “lobbying” charges…

Quote: The federal court tasked with overseeing the corrupt intelligence community’s use of its spy powers released an opinion today that found that the FBI illegally spied on a U.S. senator, a state senator, and a state judge. https://t.co/cr2Upnd47S pic.twitter.com/CXchD3fvcl

— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) July 21, 2023

According to the opinion from the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, an analyst with the FBI conducted four searches of the intelligence database using the last names of a U.S. Senator and state senator in June of 2022 — both of whom were not named in the filing.

The analyst “had information that a specific foreign intelligence service was targeting” both legislators, but a review of the search by the Justice Department’s National Security Division determined that the search still didn’t meet the proper standards because they weren’t sufficiently tailored.

In a separate instance last October, an FBI specialist ran a search of the 702 database using the social security number of a state judge who “had complained to FBI about alleged civil rights violations perpetrated by a municipal chief of police,” the filing says, that also didn’t meet sufficient standards.
