The residents of Evanston hated the proposal from the start and are just using this to apply some pressure to get what they want. It won't be paused because of this.

This is all a conspiracy started by the NIMBYs! They hired the whistleblower!!

Scott Frost is available

But in all seriousness B1G has enough money to fully gut a G5 staff right before the season.

Tulane’s Willie Fritz would be the ideal candidate for Northwestern.

So I understand the whistleblower is questionable now but weren't their stories all confirmed by a few sources? I could have sworn they said there was even staff members that said they saw it. Has that changed?

I think there is little chance they can poach any current FBS head coach at this point. Complete and total dumpster fire with a season set to begin in 7weeks.

It's a huge mess with a lot of grey area. Ultimately, 11 people confirmed hazing took place. At the same time, the initial whistleblower's motivations were completely blown-up (there's supposedly a recording of him admitting to lying and embellishing with the goal of getting Fitz fired and "put in jail") and some elements of what he told the Daily Northwestern were embellished/lies while other elements were true.

But the president won't release the investigative report, which opens everything up to endless speculation. If he'd just release the report, this wouldn't be a fraction of the mess it's become with it dividing the whole school.

On the Northwestern pay board, people are saying that some board members are livid with the president. Of course, the president wouldn't make this decision if he didn't have the support of other board trustees as well. So like the school, it looks like the BOT is completely divided.

Thank you for the run down.

I'm honestly not sure what to believe. To be frank, ex and current players saying it didn't happen doesn't really move the needle for me. That could easily be chalked up to self preservation. Especially the standouts because, as I've read, it wasnt them getting hazed but rather doing the hazing. Also, if my coach let the team "run" me, I'd probably want him in jail too.

Right now I guess I'm leaning towards the whistleblower but it feels like we're just getting started with all the twists and turns in this one.

AD just held a Zoom meeting with the players and within minutes of its conclusion, players are going after the AD/President on Twitter:

I know nothing about the situation, but up until this stuff, everything I heard about Fitz was great.

If NW was 20-4 the past two years instead of 4-20, I wonder if it happens this way. Maybe even at 10-10 with a bowl game.

FIFY

And I'm serious here. Northwestern might be able to get a sitting Coach whose seat is hot and is looking to beat the axe-falling in their current position. Some coaches seem to have the ability to "fall upwards." Someone like Dana Holgerson...he could possibly be tempted away out of Houston into a guaranteed, long-term contract. Ryan Silverfield at Memphis...Eli Drikwitz at Missouri...Tom Allen at Indiana...maybe even Dino Babers at Syracuse... I could possibly understand these guys jumping.

Willie Fritz? Nope. He has the luxury of waiting on a better situation. Ditto with the other "Hot Names" out there. This is a really, really bad situation and anyone with better options...including staying put...is not going to take this mess.

What if a majority of the team chooses not to play in protest of the school? How much $$$ would the school project to lose if they are unable to play games?

Normally, I'd be adamant that there's no way that could happen. However, this is the same school and team that attempts to repeatedly unionize. If any program could threaten and possibly follow through on it, I'd wager Northwestern would be one to do it.

They'll have a hard time getting a successful FBS coach. They're probably going 1-11 this season (Howard's on the schedule), a likely poaching of whatever top talent/recruits they have left, and now Evanston wants to pause the new stadium while the guy donating $800 million is 87 years old and BFF's with Fitz. That's on top of the academic standards any coach there has always dealt with. It's a total trap for anyone moving up the ranks.

They'll have to look at someone who's out of work and hope they'll take the job. David Shaw, Jim Leonhard, etc.

Northwestern was the doormat with Fitzgerald.

Ehhhhh, it was the past 2 years. But before that, Northwestern won a pair of division titles and had a handful of Top-25 finishes.

The Northwestern board does not believe the new stadium will get built now.

A lot has changed in a few years. NIL has been a big bust for NU, and the Big Ten’s upcoming expansion could leave them in the dust. I think the stadium renovations get done somehow (even with the status quo the Evanston NIMBYs would still have to deal with football season indefinitely) but this makes fundraising way harder unless heads roll among those who made this decision.
