We have a lopsided stadium- I realize that. It's our FCS heritage.
That said, their stadium is odd too. Not too often you see an upper deck with more capacity than the lower deck.
But I will take their press box tower any day over ours. Being situated behind the seats trumps having it sit within the seats.

Guess its a preference thing, but I kinda dislike those concrete "towers", they look tacked on, and not an integral part of the stadium. What we have is much closer to what you will see in NFL stadiums. You won't see those concrete towers at stadiums for Washington, Baltimore, etc.

Hadn't thought about the tower buildings being a college thing, but now that you mention it-I guess it is. It's just what I'm used to I suppose. Just think ours looks more like an afterthought.
I do like the row of luxury boxes between the decks and would hope that gets duplicated on the Godwin side. I wonder what JMU's thinking would have been if they hadn't had to contend with the existing parking deck? Water under the bridge now.

Totally disagree there. Ours is fully integrated into the stadium design. The tacked on tower boxes are the "afterthought" often added after the main stadium is constructed. Personally find that more tacky. Ours is built the way the pros do it.

Not all college teams build towers either, go look at Bama's. It's typically done because it was an expansion/retrofit added after the fact.

On to the next round.

We won this one, even with UVA fans and some other "haters" voting against us.

I'm not sure if that was intentional but it made me chuckle as they also had to contend with water going under a bridge.

The design of JMU’s press/media box was far from an afterthought, it was purposely designed to be integral to the way the suites, club and parking deck are all articulated, plus (and this is a big “plus”) the design impacted the way the lights on that side of BFS were incorporated.

You are undoubtedly influenced by what many other college stadiums look like, and IMO those stadiums are the ones whose “towers” look tacked-on (and they often were). In contrast, JMU’s BFS (new side) looks contemporary, streamlined and professional in a way that most college stadiums do not. Like you, when the Godwin side of BFS is built, I hope (and expect) it will basically mirror the Newman Lake side, and the finished stadium will be a real gem of a football venue.

Also in the Elite 8:

Marshall v ECU
App St v UAB
UTEP v Liberty

Think I'm voting Marshall, App, UTEP.

Seriously? Boise’s stadium is an architectural patchwork that looks like cr*p. The famous blue field aside, Boise’s stadium is “complete”…it’s completely ugly.

And BFS' Godwin side isn't architectural patchwork that looks like cr*p? Let's be honest, it is until we get a full stadium. They have stands as well in both endzones. Is it a thing on beauty? Hell no. Will BFS be superior once Phases II and Phases III are complete? Hell yes. But as of today, we have a half built stadium and those that are finished - ugly as they may be - are better looking to me. Oh, and it holds another 10k+ fans.

I also totally agree with the poster who said TxST > Boise St.

Glad we won though. JMU should always win the Internet. 04-cheers

Sure looks like they had the same architecture firm. Look at how the corners of the upper deck flow. Looks really similar.
