Question New Pitching Coach Announced
Saw on D1baseball this morning that we've hired our new pitching coach.

Cory Barton — played for the Tigers in early 2000s. Was team Captain in '06. Graduated from UM in '07. Has been pitching coach at McNeese State, Louisiana Tech, Rice and Mercer and is well regarded as a pitching coach and a recruiter. Seems like a really great hire here by Coach Riser! Excited about this hire.

What is important is who he coached not where. Has he coached any pitchers who have then made it MLBB? That is what the recruits want to know.

Under Barton, the 2019 season proved to be a smashing success for the Rice pitchers. Not only was right-hander Matt Canterino named the Conference USA Pitcher of the Year, he was selected in the second round of the 2019 Major League Draft as the 54th overall selection. Four other Rice pitchers – Evan Kravetz, Garrett Gayle, Addison Moss and Roel Garcia – were all selected in the 2019 draft due to Barton's influence. The Rice pitching staff led Conference USA with 520 strikeouts on the season while Canterino (.199) and Kravetz (.200) finished first and second in lowest opposing batting average.

Also had Jackson Kelly from Mercer drafted in 2022

He seems to be well regarded by his peers and he seems to have coached some players to really good results. He's had some pitchers drafted out of those schools. Does this hire move the needle with pitching recruits? I have no idea but I guess we'll find out!
