No doubt Louisville was our rival and we were Louisville's rival for a very long time... but that was a very long time ago and we are no longer rivals.

A&M and Texas haven't played in 12 years, does that diminish that rivalry?

Well that rivalry is coming back

I remember one of the old Metro Tourneys at the Coliseum, the Metro Conference hired Ted Giannoulas, aka The San Diego Chicken, to entertain. Don't remember who Louisville was playing but The Chicken picked up on how the vast majority of the crowd was pulling against Louisville so his act made them the villian. He was hexing their free throws, listening in on the Louisville huddles and acting like he was telling someone, but when he started putting the whammy on coach Crum you could tell the Cards had had enough. Louisville complained to the Metro brass and the Chicken quietly disappeared.

That's a pretty bizarre comparison to make given that UT v TAMU have played 109 times when Memphis games vs Louisville and UAB combined is about half of that. Not only are they both in state, but 100mi apart!

I am old enough to know the vitriol towards Louisville, and suspect there are many in Louisville that feel the same towards us, but other than the short stint with them in the AAC there has been too much time away from them to really call it a rivalry. Maybe Penny can get them back on our bball schedule, but I'm just hoping for the ACC to implode and we find ourselves back in a conference with Louisville. UAB I could take or leave.

Let's say the ACC does implode and a league is made with the ACC leftovers like Louisville and Wake Forest, I think I'd personally rather see schools like MTSU, Southern Miss, App St, Temple, and possibly ECU over UAB.

I agree about UAB ten years ago. Today's UAB is more competitive than the programs you named. With the possible exceptions of AppSt and ECU?

Yep it’s that way a lot of the time. I’m sure Texas doesn’t consider the Aggies as big a rival as the A&M folks do. Same with Oklahoma and Oklahoma St

Lived in Austin for a decade. This would be an incorrect assumption. Yes, Oklahoma is just as big as a rival as Aggie but Texas fans certainly consider them a hated rival.

I have to second this. I had a friend whose father attended a&m and his brother Texas. The annual game at that time was played on Thanksgiving and it was a big deal to both of them. They have played 118 times going back to 1894.

While there is no recent or sustained rivalry among the schools below, they would all be instant rivalries if we could schedule them regularly:

UTK
AR
UK (in MBB)
and the MS schools OM, MSU, USM
UL

Louisville was a definte rival. Those football games were some of the loudest games I have been to. Evenly matched programs and games that mattered. While you don't seem to think they are a rivalry, A-State fans certainly think you are, and I expect a very good game in Jonesboro this year.

I have been looking at your roster talent , and I am really, really impressed with what I'm seeing.

Know you will have to get some very, very talented transfers up to speed fast, but my question is who do you think would win between you and Oklahoma?

Trying to decide who their toughest OOC opponent is, and have it down to you and them, but still undecided.

FYI , know it is hard to be considered a Rivalrie of Memphis without basketball but their new head basketball coach said he and Penny want to play ASAP.

True. But the truth also is that we would have been better than most of those teams in football over the last ten years. Its not like UAB vs Bama, Tulsa vs OU, or AState vs Arkansas. It wouldn't have been our shot at the big boys in the region, we would have been one of the big boys in the region. Just think if we had similar resources and a system that didn't necessarily remove our coach every time we have success

I am mildly optimistic about the season but I don't see any comparison between us and Oklahoma. Too many 4 and 5 star dudes there.

Best way to compare is to play. I'm guessing we aren't attempting to schedule UO.
