Question Julian Henson is a Big Loss
Julian Henson is no longer with the baseball program. This is a huge loss. He is an amazing recruiter and coach. The players love him. The recruits love him. All the high school and travel coaches love him and have relationships with him. Sad to see him go. He was getting big time recruits to come to Memphis. It's a shame to lose him from our program.

Who's decision was this move?

How long has Henson been with the program?

Big loss? Wasn’t his highest level of coaching experience on the 12U travel ball circuit? I didn’t think he had any high level coaching experience outside of kids travel ball, could be mistaken.

Thought a lot of the local EBC parents didn’t like him? Also heard about the Dulin and Miss St fiasco that’s ongoing

The guy coached at the highest level of travel ball for Tim Dulin; and eventually moved to EBC after Tim shifted his focus to Texas. Julian would start with a young 12u squad and stay with them as they worked their way up thru the age classifications. The reality is, once they hit 15u, the truly talented squads weren’t bound by age classification. Everybody in the SE travel ball circuit knows Julian or knows of him.

Rumor is he has some connections to some MS players and encouraged them to hit the portal. The MS coaches ain’t happy

Quite a few played for his Dulin’s Ince team he coached. The one that had Blaze Jordan.

The people who played the sport thought the hire was questionable (to say the least) from the start, zero coaching experience outside of summer travel ball doesn’t make him a good candidate to lead the program to the level it needs to reach.

He got a good addition to his resume only because the original hire got here and saw his Hickory Hill home and said hell no.

Then they simply don’t know the value of relationships in recruiting… I’m not saying the guy is unreplaceable or a future college head coach, but I can certainly understand why he was hired, and why he’ll likely end up on another staff.

If you have a kid who has played travel ball the past ten years, you know that Julian is highly respected. If there is one area the Memphis program has lacked the last couple of decades, it’s recruiting the local talent. Julian was well on his way to bringing local talent back to the school….

I’ve said it before and I’ll continue to advocate for him, but if the UofM does not, at least, reach out to Joe Caruso with the East Coast Sox, then they are not doing their homework.

Perhaps he’s at a point where he wouldn’t want to take on an assistant role, but there is no one in the southeast with better relationships than Joe; and the guy lives in Collierville.

Its tough being the guy who has to tell people their son is not good enough to take the next step, and Joe is often in that difficult position.

I’ve never heard of those comments but I do know there are more parents with unrealistic visions of their kid’s abilities than not; and when you’re speaking of coaches, instructors & travel ball, you’re speaking in terms of tens of thousands of dollars invested, often by families that couldn’t afford it; & Joe is usually the last coach standing between an invested parent & their dream. I know Joe as a great guy & someone who could be a resource for the university… though he likely makes more with the EC Sox than he would on the baseball staff at the UofM.

Why is it sad to see him go? We've let other coaches from different sports get to bring in their staff... Sucks for Hensen, but I'm sure he knows it's part of the business.

With his qualifications I assume LSU and Florida are in a fight for his services and he is waiting until the dust settles from the CWS to decide where to go next?
