Given the teacher's comment that this was a, "solid proposal," one can fairly and reasonably conclude that the truthful description, "biological woman," was the sole basis for the grade. This is a professor who needs firing, badly. And somebody needs to find a criminal cause of action to prosecute her. Only when perpetrators of this kind of crap have to start paying for criminal defense lawyers will it stop. Somebody needs a perp walk.
