RE: Trump leads DeSantis by 20 points.................in Florida
DeSantis' problems:

1. Some Trump supporters will vote for him in the primary over anger in 2020.
2. Trump will attack RD on cutting SS and Medicare, and those attacks will land.
3. A lot of GOP primary voters are going to vote for whoever is hated the most by the party establishment.

It makes perfect sense — they are trying to stop him because he has good chance of winning [if he can get ballot harvesting right]. The main reason is that the 2024 election no matter what people think of Trump, is going to be a referendum on Biden. It’s going to be about his mental decline and about his governance. He’s going to be on constant defense and no amount of media protection or hiding in the basement will save him unless he can out ballot harvest Trump which is the real concern

Polls are saying DeSantis has a better chance at beating Biden than Trump does.

Actually, no they arent. EVen the fake polls arent saying that.

https://nypost.com/2023/04/25/biden-beat...024-polls/

I won't die on the hill of polls, but yes they are.

You are dying on a hill they want you to die on.

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls...-7383.html

Trump +1.8 over Biden over the last 6 weeks or so of polls.

DeSantis up 1.4 over Biden ov er the same time.

Trumplet logic is a merry-go-round. It’s best to step off before you get too dizzy.
Very true.

4. By making sure there is no real challenger to biden, the DNC has made sure that democrats can switch parties and vote in the primaries for Trump. Who they feel they can be beaten easily, because of all the lies they have placed out there the last 8 years...

The process is meant to be exhausting. That's kind of the point.

Yet of all the posters on this forum, eric, you are among the LAST that I would be at all concerned about succumbing to despair.

Oh good grief Monarch, as if being a born again Christian means I can't be sick of grossly corrupt garbage and lies.

Did I miss the memo and today is opposite day?

Every single genuine born again Christian should be sick to death of this wicked, corrupt and evil world and want Christ to come back NOW.

If anyone here does not feel that way, then that's a good sign you are not really a Christian yet.

1 John 2:15-16

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

Not that you need it, eric, but you have my permission to be anything you want - - including an overly defensive, drama-queen poster if you so wish.

My post was mostly meant as a compliment.

I didn't remotely insult you or get personal at all, but you respond by insulting me and then accused ME of being the over sensitive drama queen.

Now that's as rich as it gets.

We'll just have to agree to disagree and let those posts stand on their own.

Because they hate him. It is personal.

This is the republican problem. Trump and Trump-backed candidates can win republican primaries. But they can't win general elections because Trump's negatives turn off too many independent voters.

And those who live in the pro-Trump echo chamber just can't see that.

I've watched for years as establishment republicans get in office and then side with liberals on key votes.

So I'm not sure what the answer here is, both options seem like a loser to me.

You can't accomplish anything if you don't win elections. And you can't accomplish anything if the people who win elections won't vote to do the things that they promised.

I think the solution is for the republican party to come up with a series of issue positions that they commit to run on and enact when they win. Newt did this with his Contract in 1994 and that led to the largest republican victory ever.

Part of the problem is that the only issues where republicans seem to be able to generate any enthusiasm are abortion and gay rights, and the religious right positions on those issues are not winners with the electorate in general. I think republicans can win, and keep the majority of evangelicals by opposing the radical extremes of the left without having to push the radical extremes of the right.

The serious answer is revolution. Is that a viable answer? Probably not.

I've noticed that DS is not slamming Trump in his speeches and sticking to the truths concerning Satan's prodigies, the Demoncraps. I think that's a good strategy. I still think he should have waited until 2028 to run.

I think DeSantis was contemplating this:

1. Don't run in 2024 against Trump because he's a shoe-in, or
2. Run now while you're hot because the landscape could change toward someone else in 2028.

I'm not privy to any such conversations, but if I were DeSantis I think I would've approached Trump to discuss a strategy where Trump would be the 2024 nominee with DeSantis being prominently positioned in his administration.

This is true... even though:
1. Recent polls show Democrats don't want Biden*.
2. Trump will have all kinds of material to hammer Biden*, including the truth of the Laptop, the lies Biden* spewed on 2020 debate stage about 50 former intel heads lying, the list goes on and on.

To me the serious answer is for republicans to take a few pages from Newt's 1994 playbook and come up with a platform of common sense policy proposals that can be contrasted against the democrats' radical craziness.

Health care is a disaster. Obamacare doesn't work. Bismarck does.
Education is a disaster. Get it out from under control by education bureaucrats, require schools to teach the three R's and dump the D-I-E crap, put students on tracks (gifted, college prep, vocational), significantly upgrade the vocational track, and start the path to school choice.
Replace the top-heavy bureaucracies running our welfare programs with more direct systems like negative income tax or Boortz-Linder prefund/prebate that put 90% of their funding into benefits instead of 75% into administration, enabling simultaneously more benefits, lower total cost, and smaller government.
Have the strongest military in the world, bar none, equal to JFK's "2-1/2 war" standard or the "two power standard" of Sir Jackie Fisher's Royal Navy, by 1) clearly defining each branch's mission and then keeping each in its own lane, 2) cutting administrative overhead by 25-33%, 3) converting 400K active duty slots to 1MM reserve slots, 4) reforming procurement to replace unproved pie-in-the-sky cutting edge technology with proved ways and techniques, and 5) replacing woke D-I-E crap with professionalism and combat readiness as performance standards. And never have to use it because nobody dares pick on us and we don't go around picking on them.
Clip the wings of the bureaucratic swamp by revising the Administrative Procedure Act to provide for 1) congressional advise and consent to new rule-making, 2) sunset reviews of agencies and their regulations, and 3) adjudication of disputes before Article III administrative law courts instead of captive administrative law judges.

Become the party of common sense as opposed to the party of elite experts.
