Predict their Record: Marshall
9/2 - Albany
9/9 - at East Carolina
9/16 - BYE
9/23 - Virginia Tech
9/30 - Old Dominion
10/7 - at NC State
10/14 - at Georgia State
10/19 (Thursday) - James Madison
10/28 - at Coastal Carolina
11/4 - at Appalachian State
11/11 - Georgia Southern
11/18 - at South Alabama
11/25 - Arkansas State

Marshall has about a 60% chance of getting a P5 win going by SP+. I'll pick them to lose 2 of ECU and the P5 games. With South on the cross-division schedule and the Sun Belt East grind I think they'll take 3 conference losses. Having the BYE early in the season and not anywhere in the October and November grind is going to be tough.

The defense may be even better than last year and you’d have to think the offense can’t be worse. Think we lose USA, NC State, and one other game.

I really think we could have our best year since 2014 this year. We should win the trenches against anybody we play, including NCSt. I voted 10-2 with losses to NCSt and USA.

RE: Predict their Record: Marshall
We have the best running back in the nation. Our defense is positioned to be elite. It's year 3 for Huff and he's tapped Fancher as his guy. We were playing the best ball in the conference from Nov. 1 forward last year. Personally, I will be disappointed in anything less than a conference title and double-digit wins.

Huff seems like Doc 2.0 wins some games he should lose, loses some games he should win. Va Tech, @ NC State, @ ECU, plus 1 FCS much tougher overall all OOC than last year's @ ND, @ BGSU, plus 2 FCS. Not sure how the defense will respond to the new DC, last year the O-line was flat for several games after getting a new coach.

I like Grant, but we go turkey huntin'.. no one's pointing out that ECU lost a lot to graduation...yeah NC State should give us a second beatin'..

Hopefully our first trip to Huntington doesn't get hidden by becoming a meaningless last game because we stink.

RE: Predict their Record: Marshall
I voted 8-4 as the most likely. Two OOC losses and 2 Conference losses, with South Alabama being likely, plus one other. Yes, the defense looks awesome, again, but I’m not yet convinced about our QB play, but sure do want to be wrong. If that doesn’t improve rapidly, 7-5 or worse could be the result. Plus Ali needs to stay healthy and productive.

Doc never won games he wasn't supposed to, but lost a lot of games we were supposed to win.

8-4. Losses to NC State, Coastal and 2 losses to either USA, APP or ECU. Win our bowl game to finish 9-4.
I really think 2024 will be the year we break out. Jmo

RE: Predict their Record: Marshall
I think Marshall's front 7 on defense will be awesome and in the Sun Belt East that could carry them to winning the division as long as their new DC is competent.

My honest opinion on the offense, it was middling last season and I don't see any reason to think it won't be middling again. Marshall played down the stretch Coastal, ODU, App, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, and UConn and averaged 22 points. That's hardly a gauntlet of tough defenses to face.

I have faith that now that Cam doesn't have to start/stop, he'll develop much quicker..

I went 8-4. Losses to NC State, JMU, App State, USA... If App State doesn't bounce back this year like I'm thinking they will or if JMU's new QB is a flop then it's really gonna throw off a bunch of my predictions lol

RE: Predict their Record: Marshall
The Herd faithful should be ready to watch an improved team from last years campaign—and a double digit win total SHOULD come to fruition by regular season’s end. Defense has more depth than last season, offense has another year of growth and the Thundering Herd should be no less than 4-1 over the first five games of the season.

ECU: Loses a lot from last season’s team, Herd owes them one and will walk out of G’Ville with a W; something along the lines of 27-23 MU.

VT: Talk about a game that will have everybody ready to go from the players to the fans—former QB who left MU has to return to Joan C. Edwards. Most of the defense will be chomping at the bit to send him off with a loss and this game should not be problematic for the Herd. Herd 34 VT 23.

ODU: Dub City for the Herd 44-12.

NC St: Wolfpack will probably be a little Jekyll and Hyde this coming season, new faces at key places. Gotta believe Marshall has a good chance of winning this one, don’t believe the Pack are tougher than any of the better SBC teams on the schedule. Toss up here, but leaning to the W.

If Marshall wins all of the above; I still don’t know that they run the table, haven’t seen that consistency yet from this staff or team. South Alabama and Ark State will both be tough outs from the West. Need to see the offense before we know what this teams ceiling is this year, however it looks possible that this years edition of the Herd could be in the SBC CG and most likely in a rematch w/ USA.

I agree. The defense looks even better than last year. Just in the last 3 weeks, Huff added DL and OT from TCU x2 Watson and Barlow, DL from Arkansas, Corner from Miami U, CB from UConn, and just today a Safety from Ohio St. I may be missing someone. The defense looks like it's going to be fine. My only concern is MU does not play VT and ECU well. Even when they should win, they find a way to screw it up. Hopefully the VT jinx stops in 2023.
