In regard to golf suggestions, for public courses in the area, I always liked Boone Golf Club and Mountain Glen in Newland (about 40 minutes away)
Thanks, MTneer84! I'll check them out. And after I thought about it, best brewery and/or bar in Boone?
Bar? Boone Saloon or Ale House. Both a little dive-y. Lilly's Snack Bar is a personal fave, but it's a little new age progressivey and that might turn off some, but they don't care. They have cocktails on tap. Twigs in BR for a little more class.
Brewery? Boone currently has four and a fifth about finished. All four current ones are good and have a variety of different styles of beers. Lagers, Stouts, Porters, IPAs, Ales, Sours, Pilsners, etc.
Appalachian Mountain Brewery (who just bought out Anheuser Busch's stake in the company and took it back private)
Booneshine has a huge restaurant and ale house and nice outdoor space
Lost Province has two locations one restaurant/pizza/brewery/etc. and one tap room in East Boone.
Parallel Brewery is in the Beacon Butcher Bar. Fine beer. Small.
South End Brewery is on it's way in the old Murphy/Ransom spot. But it's owned out of greensboro.
