Wouldn’t surprise me. Those 2 have been long speculated for the ASUN. I believe Matt reported UWF wasn’t yet willing to move to D1, but maybe that changes.

I have no doubt this is exactly what The Random Texans had in mind. To share a league with Valdosta State.

West Florida to the Atlantic Sun and UAC for football would be really exciting. Kind of amazing there isn't a single D1 team in that part of Florida currently.

Valdosta St have seemed more reluctant in years past but maybe they see this as the right time to finally move up. Still surprises me a bit.

ASUN/UAC should invite West Georgia as well, assuming this is where olympic sports will reside. EKU will be in CUSA soon I believe. This will help UAC stay at or get back to 12 football members if SFA and/or Tarleton St jump as well.

EKU is being blocked by WKU from joining C-USA it is believed. Tarleyon are still in their transition period. When they finish next season they will be an attractive option for sure. OVC is rumored to be interested in West Georgia to expand the conference footprint further south.

Talked to a buddy mine of mine in Pensacola a few weeks ago who's pretty connected in the local sports scene

He said UWF definitely has intentions of going D1.

As a UNA alum/fan in Pensacola, I would love this!! Pensacola is a D1 town.

I guess the only ones who really know if they will jump is the schools themselves. It never shock me if they do jump to d1. Better place for them. I have to laugh at those who are so against d2 to d1 moves.

Whether they want to or not I have thought for awhile that UWF, VSU and UWG should move up.

These two schools have not been in meaningful conversations with the ASUN in like, three months. West Georgia was angling for the OVC, and may consider other leagues...but neither of these schools want to move to FBS on any timetable and are not a fit for what the UAC is trying to build at the moment.

Even though Matt has said this is false, these are two state schools with enrollments over 12k in a floundering D2 league. They are as big as the largest five schools in the UAC. The Gulf South Conference will be down to just six football schools in 2025 and that’s if West Georgia sticks around. UWF is Florida’s only state school not in D1. Florida has plenty of money if they upped the ante for D1/FCS.

Maybe the Southland will come a’callin soon. Pensacola is a sports town.

I definitely don’t think “dreams of FBS” should keep the two main conferences from inviting teams that want to play FCS football. Silly IMO. UWF, UWG, and VSU are solid football programs.
